So far in class, my students have created a 3D \"ball\" to represent a planet. This project accompanies a solar system activity where students create size and distance models of the solar system. My students realized that they needed more pieces to create an actual ball that is more rounded, but some of the greatest outcomes start from mistakes. With this project, students also realized they could use the accessories to make perfect circles!\r\n\r\nThe next project students are doing is creating a sign representing our school for the upcoming Science Olympiad competition in March. The challenge is to create a self-supporting sign that stands on a table and can be seen above a crowd of adults. This is halfway finished.\r\n\r\nWhen my students were first introduced to the Chompsaw, they were extremely excited to dive in with a project. After viewing the project books, they were ready to create a frame for a solar powered car resembling a dinosaur. Unfortunately, the competition this project was no longer on our schedule of events.\r\n\r\nMy next steps with the Chompsaw and project books are to have more students create size models of the solar system, but starting with 2D models so students understand the mechanics of the Chompsaw. Once they have figured out the device, we can get into 3D models of the Solar System. \r\n\r\nNext year, my goal is to have students create projects that model changes in force and motion, demonstrating Newton's 1st and 2nd Laws of Motion.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity towards classroom innovation and STREAM!","fullyFundedDate":1762803382893,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-through-stem-chomping-at-the-b/9887608/","projectTitle":"Literacy Through STEM: Chomping at the Bit","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hinspeter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6731390_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y272&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697205921917","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6731390"},{"teacherId":8020803,"projectId":9864381,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, The Gift of Reading for English Learners.
