My students loved the journals when they first saw them - I used their scientist drawings and their faces to place on their scientist notebook. They now see themselves as Little Scientists!\r\n\r\nWe have started to make observations with our 5 senses and they are recording what they notice - as scientists observe and record information. We will begin sentence writing soon which I'm excited for them to be more intentional about using their journals and writing clearly. Today, we had the 5 senses station and students were able to cut and glue their observations in their journals. One of the things we learned recently about engineers is that they use paper and pencil to make designs. For the end of unit assessment, students will use their journals to design a bridge and build it. The plant items will be used in the next quarter, but I know they will be excited to see the roots taking form and experiencing the life transitions of a seed. I'm really eager to start the plant unit because we will experiment with different variables which the colored cups will come in handy for. \r\n\r\nWords cannot express how thankful I am to have been blessed with your donations. The students are enjoying science and are eager for what's to come. Students explored the school grounds and carefully placed their rocks near leaves, grass clumps, flowers, trees, and rain spouts. It was wonderful to watch them realize that something they created could brighten another person's day.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on this experience through counseling lessons about **kindness, identifying feelings, empathy, and how our words and actions can affect others**. Since they are clear, students can see what is inside of them so they can easily choose what they want to use. \r\nThrough this project, students all received their own pencils and glue. I am glad I was able to give them all new ones for a fresh start to the new year. My students were in awe when they first saw them. Then we took them outside and their imaginations ran wild. They made rocket ships, castles, schools, and a bus. They especially liked that they could stand or sit inside of their creations. \r\n\r\nAs the weather is warming up, I know we will be using these a lot more and I love that they can easily be brought outside.
