As you can see from the pictures it took a minute to put this together. We had to take it apart and put it back together and then learn how to use it. the school year ended and we had to pick it up the following school year. We finally got a chance to do a project on the printer and make t-shirts to represent all the club does. By the time we got around to everything the students I started the STEM lab with were about to graduate. \r\n\r\nThe students talked about what a great time they had learning about new inventions in social studies class and getting to create new things that could put them in the history books one day. I loved hearing all the things they remember doing with all the projects they have worked with from 6th grade through 8th grade. \r\n\r\nNow many have graduated and I am now at another school, I love here they kids text me and tell me how they are learning things in their high schools they were already able to learn in middle school but they got to do a project along side to represent what they did. This STEM lab was almost 3 years in the making but now it is almost complete with my vision of new things kiddos can learn. One particularly memorable moment was when a student who typically struggles with focus found that shadowboxing helped him stay engaged throughout a lengthy test. Seeing how movement positively impacts their learning and behavior has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the equipment, their excitement was undeniable. They were eager to test it out and even took the initiative to research how professional boxers use shadowboxing to sharpen their reflexes and mental focus. This curiosity led to discussions about discipline, perseverance, and how movement can enhance learning. The equipment has not only provided an outlet for energy but has also sparked an interest in sports and fitness, reinforcing the importance of physical activity in academic settings.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I want to expand opportunities for movement-based learning by incorporating more technology. My goal is to acquire tools that allow students to work on assignments while using equipment like a swing, exercise bike, or rocking chair. By giving them options to move while they learn, I hope to create an environment where all students—especially those who need sensory input to stay focused—can thrive.
