The students love seeing their projects come to life in color and I enjoy being able to print any needed materials regardless if the one school copier is broken for the week! This was a wonderful way for my classes and I to end our reading journey together this past school year. This book deals with issues of survival and self-acceptance as well as timeless issues about growing up. Students were able to get highly involved in this novel and connected to the characters.\r\n\r\nWith this book, students were able to practice their literary analysis skills as well as simply enjoying the story. Students worked on identify figurative language, character development, and citing text to support their inferences. They were also able to read articles discussing the issue of anger, bullying and mediation. This allowed for some important class discussions and gave them some skills for their own journeys through adolescents.\r\n\r\nStudents enjoyed this book so much that they were asking for a sequel! Unfortunately, there isn't one. However, since I chose this book for students to read, they trusted me to give them suggestions for independent summer reading! That is what is so great about ending the year with such a good novel!","fullyFundedDate":1742734922568,"projectUrl":"project/for-the-love-of-reading/9193009/","projectTitle":"For the Love of Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McCaughey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3404103_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547232048401","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3404103"},{"teacherId":3404103,"projectId":8524491,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom! My students were so happy to receive notebooks and folders to be used in the classroom. Many of them were not able to secure these at the beginning of the year due to financial situations or transportation issues. To have them provided was such a relief to them!\r\n\r\nThe pencil sharpener has come in handy as well. As you can imagine, students are not too gentle with classroom supplies. This sharpener is extremely sturdy and can stand up to being overused on a regular basis. Students often sharpen multiple pencils a day as I have the best sharpener in the 7th grade!\r\n\r\nThe post it notes have also been a huge hit in my classroom. Having these allows the kids to track their thoughts, annotations, and questions in our novels without actually writing in the books. These allow the kids to become active readers in a fun. colorful way! They also can quickly go back in the novel to see previous predictions and questions when they are answered in the novel.","fullyFundedDate":1730320082253,"projectUrl":"project/a-positive-start-to-the-school-year/8524491/","projectTitle":"A Positive Start to the School Year!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McCaughey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3404103_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1547232048401","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3404103"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43427","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":547,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":40,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":58.1,"schoolId":43427,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jettie S Tisdale Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jettie S Tisdale Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/bridgeport-public-schools/jettie-s-tisdale-school/43427"}
