First grade is a time for learning so many important skills-how to read, count, write and behave like "little ladies and gentlemen". This is what I tell my students every day. They are enthusiastic about everything they do, and as an educator I want to provide them with engaging, fun and advanced learning materials. My school is based in a very high-need, low-income community. It is in one of the 10 largest inner-city school districts in the country. It is often in great need of simple everyday supplies. While I am fortunate enough to have the paper and pencils we need, I now would like to build upon something that is a very vital component of a first grade literacy curriculum-my listening library.
