During our current environmental science unit, students have been diagramming the carbon cycle in ways they never could before. They can visually map individual elements, track them through the system, and still have plenty of space to show all the connections to our prior learning.\r\n\r\nThe impact was visible immediately. Students and teachers alike have commented on how clean and bright this enormous whiteboard makes the entire classroom feel. When it was first installed, it truly seemed as though the room expanded, not just physically, but in what we felt was possible.\r\n\r\nToday, the whiteboard has become the anchor of our learning. The date, block schedules, assignments, and even our large class timer now live in one central, accessible place. Because every student can clearly see our agenda, objectives, and shared notes, work completion has noticeably increased, especially for students who rely on strong visual supports to stay organized and engaged.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just give us a better board. You gave my students a space where their thinking is visible, valued, and initiates the learning process.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. The materials you provided have already made a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nMy students really like the cell phone charging station. I was surprised to find that when I asked them to put their phones away, even students who usually give me a hard time were willing to put their phones on the charging station without any issues. For some students, it has become a great management tool that helps them keep their phones put away during class, which reduces distractions.\r\n\r\nI love the microphones and mini megaphone, which were replacement materials for the throwable speaker. Speaking in English is a focus in my class, where I want students to build confidence in speaking. These materials put a fun twist on speaking. One student even suggested that if the whole class grows on our state assessment, we should have a karaoke party! The thumbs up/down paddles, which were also a replacement item, are a huge hit. All students can participate, and they can be used for quickly assessing understanding or content, without putting anyone on the spot. \r\n\r\nI used the pens as rewards for students. I created Quarter 1 perfect attendance awards and let those students choose a new pen. I will also reward students who have shown growth on county assessments. They love getting to write in different colors.\r\n\r\nThank you, I truly believe that these materials excite my teenage students by making learning feel more interactive and student-centered. We put it to use the very first day it arrived.\r\nAs you may know, Prince George's County Public Schools has the largest percentage of Multilingual Learners in Maryland, with over 100 languages represented in the school system. My school alone has more than a thousand students enrolled in the English Language Development program. In my classes, some of the languages represented include French, Haitian Creole, Mam, Bengali, Dutch, Vietnamese, and, most commonly, Spanish. The Pocketalk is truly a great tool to have.\r\n\r\nThe course I teach is designed for long-term multilingual learners, but due to scheduling and graduation requirements, I also work with students who have only recently arrived in the United States. The mixed English proficiency levels in my classes can create communication barriers, and the Pocketalk has already been incredibly helpful in overcoming some of the barriers. For example, one of my students began attending U.S. schools just last year, while many of his classmates have been here since elementary school. During a small group activity, I taught the group how to use the Pocketalk so they could all participate in the conversation. It took some getting used to, but it was wonderful to hear everyone engaged. There was plenty of laughter as students quickly learned how important pronunciation is. At one point, the device misunderstood a student saying \"with\" and translated it as esposa (wife)!\r\nI've also used the Pocketalk to restate and clarify directions. In one class, students asked to hear vocabulary words in Spanish, which helped me highlight Spanish–English cognates, and help them realize they know the meaning of the word.\r\n\r\nParent conferences were another unexpected opportunity to use the Pocketalk. In a large school, interpreters aren't always immediately available, and the device allowed me to communicate effectively without delay. I'm continuing to teach students how to use the device so they can communicate confidently with other stakeholders in the building. Several students are excited to use the Pocketalk when meeting with counselors or other monolingual staff members, instead of relying on typing into Google Translate on their Chromebooks.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving us language at our fingertips.","fullyFundedDate":1761254520659,"projectUrl":"project/talk-the-talk-pocketalk-for-effective-e/9491414/","projectTitle":"Talk the Talk: Pocketalk for Effective ELD Support","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zanghi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5263449_orig.png?crop=669,669,x287,y114&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726410334325","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5263449"},{"teacherId":7941745,"projectId":9353727,"letterContent":"We are thrilled to share the extraordinary impact of your generosity on the High Point High School baseball program. Because of your commitment to the Leveling Playing Field: Equipment for Underserved High School Baseball Team initiative, our student-athletes are experiencing a transformation that goes far beyond the scoreboard.\r\nYour contributions directly provided essential pitching and catching equipment, and the effect it has had on our team's daily routine is nothing short of remarkable.\r\nElevating Daily Practice and Performance\r\nFor our high school baseball players, the challenge wasn't a lack of talent or dedication—it was a lack of reliable, quality equipment. Before your donation, limited and worn-out gear meant critical training drills had to be shortened or skipped entirely, and the risk of injury was always a concern.\r\nNow, everything has changed. The new equipment has allowed us to implement more focused and higher-quality training sessions every single day:\r\n * Pitching Confidence: With a full set of quality catcher's gear, every pitcher now has a comfortable and protected target. This allows our pitchers to throw with greater intensity and accuracy during bullpen sessions. They can work on their control, change-ups, and game-speed repetitions without hesitation, dramatically accelerating their development and building their confidence on the mound.\r\n * Fundamental Skill Development: Our catchers are now fully protected with professional-grade gear. This has enabled them to dedicate more time to critical defensive drills—blocking pitches, framing, and working on transition throws. The enhanced safety means they can be more aggressive and focused, turning fundamental skills into second nature.\r\n * Improved Team Dynamics: The sheer availability of equipment means more players can practice simultaneously. No more standing around waiting for a single set of gear to be handed off. This efficiency has increased the overall tempo of practice, fostering a more disciplined and focused environment where every athlete is engaged in continuous improvement.\r\nBuilding Better Students and Citizens\r\nWhile the new gear has made our team stronger on the field, the most significant impact is visible in the character and work ethic of our students.\r\nYour donation did more than provide equipment; it sent a clear message that their effort is valued. Knowing that generous individuals believe in their potential has instilled a new level of pride and responsibility. They treat the new equipment with respect, they arrive early, they stay late, and they are more accountable to their coaches and each other.\r\nThe focused, high-tempo practices made possible by your support are daily lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and discipline—qualities they take with them into the classroom and the community.\r\nThank you for being the catalyst that truly leveled the playing field for our High Point High School student-athletes. Thanks to your support, my students recently had the incredible opportunity to explore owl pellets as part of the curriculum. This hands-on project brought excitement, curiosity, and a sense of discovery to our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were buzzing. Many had never seen owl pellets before, and their reactions ranged from fascination to a bit of squeamishness. As we began our investigation, their curiosity quickly took over. They eagerly donned gloves, dissected the pellets, and uncovered tiny bones, marveling at the remnants of the owl's diet. One student excitedly exclaimed, \"I found a mouse skull!\" while another carefully reconstructed the skeleton of what they believed to be a shrew. Most found 3 skulls in their pellets. High quality materials were received.\r\n\r\nThis project not only deepened student understanding of food chains and ecosystems but also encouraged critical thinking and collaboration. Students worked together to identify bones, classify prey types, and discuss the role of owls in their habitats. Then they were able to demonstrate through calculations the 10% conservation of energy at trophic levels as you move up the food pyramid. Their enthusiasm for learning has been truly inspiring, and your donation played a key role in making this memorable experience possible.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to use the data collected from our owl pellet investigations to create food web diagrams and explore the interconnectedness of species within ecosystems. This project has sparked an ongoing interest in wildlife and ecology, and I'm excited to see how my students will apply their newfound knowledge to future lessons.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom and supporting my students' learning journey.
