This project involves, complete project management where students design and create their own Hydroponics/Aeroponics/Aquaponics system. This research project will allow my students to learn science by applying their knowledge in line with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS, which involves crosscutting/cross curricular concepts, science and engineering practices. Your donation will help our students to create their own hydroponics/aeroponics systems for research oriented hands on learning where students investigate, analyse and find solutions to inquiry. All your donated materials will be exclusively used for this project. The sheets of rock-wool used as seed starters to make seedlings to be placed in net-pots to grow them in the hydroponics system. PVC pipe, elbows, tees and couplings will form the body of the system where net pots are placed to grow plants. Net-pots are placed in the holes made by using a step drill. Air pumps, tubes and air stones are used to aerate the water to prevent anaerobic activities in in the system and keep it healthy. Your donation will help students to grow useful plants indoor, without pesticides, and with less water and space than traditional agricultural systems, and may be stacked with LED lighting to limit space use. This makes them optimal for use in cities, where space is particularly limited and populations are high-self-sustaining city-based food systems mean a reduced strain on distant farms, the reduction of habitat intrusions, fewer food miles, and fewer carbon emissions. Through this project students can manipulate several variables such as varying pH, different plant nutrients, Alkalinity, different spectrum of lights and alike to optimize growth and to create indoor urban gardens. If funded, your donation will help our economically backward, minority students to use them for all the four quarters with multiple research questions and variables.
