Our school serves more than 1,000 multilingual learners, with a wide variety of languages represented, including Pashto, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Haitian Creole, French, and Spanish, among others. I work with students in grades 9–12 who have a wide range of English proficiency levels. The course, Language Lab, is designed for students who are long-term multilingual learners (LTMLs). We define long-term multilingual learners as students who have been enrolled in English Language Development courses for more than six years. Our students bring a wealth of cultural and linguistic diversity to the classroom. They come from a variety of backgrounds and have unique experiences, perspectives, and strengths that contribute to our learning community. Their voices shape a classroom where all belong.
