As a special education teacher for first and second grade students, I work with learners who all have unique strengths and needs, so having engaging and accessible books is incredibly important. These new texts have allowed me to introduce and reinforce many foundational literacy skills in fun and meaningful ways. Students are practicing phonics, sight word recognition, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development while also building confidence as readers. Many of the books also support social-emotional learning by helping students recognize emotions, problem solve, and connect with characters and real-life situations.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom looks very interactive and hands-on. We use small group instruction, partner reading, read-alouds, and independent exploration of books. My students love using visuals, pointing to words as they read, discussing pictures, and making predictions about stories. We also incorporate movement, games, and sensory supports to help students stay engaged. For many of my students, reading can feel challenging at times, so creating positive reading experiences is one of my biggest goals. These books help make reading exciting instead of intimidating.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with the new books. One student who previously avoided reading activities now eagerly asks to read during free time and loves retelling stories using the pictures. Another student who struggles with attention has been much more engaged during literacy lessons because the books match his interests and keep him motivated. Seeing students become excited about books, participate more confidently, and celebrate their own progress has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting my classroom and helping create meaningful learning experiences for my students. These boards have become a powerful hands-on tool that supports how our students learn best—through movement, visual input, and active participation. By allowing students to physically manipulate letters and tiles, the boards turn abstract phonics concepts into something concrete and accessible.\r\n\r\nOne of the most significant benefits of the foam magnetic letter boards is how effectively they support instruction with digraphs and blends. Many of our students struggle with the concept that two letters can work together to create one new sound. Seeing these letter combinations on paper alone is often not enough. With the use of digraph and blend tiles, students can physically place letters together, observe how they function as a unit, and hear the sound they make. This tactile experience helps reinforce the idea that letters do not always work independently, making phonics rules easier to understand and remember.","fullyFundedDate":1764630163579,"projectUrl":"project/we-love-learning-our-phonics/9674073/","projectTitle":"We Love Learning Our Phonics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Katrina","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4596659_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1543037651427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4596659"},{"teacherId":4596659,"projectId":9563049,"letterContent":"Providing classroom snacks and take-home dinners has made a significant impact on students across our school community. By ensuring that students have reliable snacks during the school day and meals to bring home, we remove a major barrier to their ability to fully participate in learning.\r\n\r\nThese resources help students feel cared for, safe, and supported. When children know their basic needs are met, they are more focused, calm, and ready to learn. Teachers consistently see higher engagement, improved behavior, and stronger stamina during instructional time when students are not distracted by hunger. Offering snacks and take-home dinners is more than a simple act of kindness—it is an essential part of creating an equitable learning environment where all students can thrive academically and emotionally.","fullyFundedDate":1756250135889,"projectUrl":"project/fully-bellys-help-fill-our-minds/9563049/","projectTitle":"Fully Bellys Help Fill Our Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Katrina","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4596659_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1543037651427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4596659"},{"teacherId":4596659,"projectId":9487581,"letterContent":"Flexible seating has created a meaningful shift in our special education classroom. Students who once struggled to remain seated now have an outlet that supports their attention rather than competes with it. Their stamina during reading, writing, and small-group instruction has grown, and they transition into learning activities with greater readiness and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nOverall, flexible seating has strengthened both academic engagement and classroom community.
