I wrote this project because the students in my loop position talked with me about how to make the library a more productive learning community. Students explained that they want to build a community where it is fun and active as they engage in deeper learning. I asked what would make it better and they said games and movement as they learn. Students and I identified materials that bring in academics but allow for movement and games to occur throughout the day.
Our school focus is PK-5th grade so we sought out materials that allow for movement in our library as we engage in community building, sit around and read on wobbly chairs, and have materials to engage older students like soft balls, early literacy and numeracy at the primary grades.
Our goal is actively moving and engaging our students in the library while increasing social emotional learning skills and building positive relationships
