In first grade, the physical act of writing is a major developmental hurdle. When students were using wide-ruled paper, they struggled to understand the \"architecture\" of a letter, where the tail of a 'g' should hang or where the head of a 't' should reach. These specialized primary lines provide the essential visual scaffolding my students need. The impact is visible in their penmanship; their letters are more consistent, their spacing has improved, and their frustration levels have plummeted now that they have the correct \"road map\" for their pencils.\r\n\r\nBeyond the mechanics of writing, these notebooks have had a profound impact on my students' organizational skills and academic pride. Previously, my students' work was scattered across various printed sheets, making it difficult for them to see the connection between Monday's lesson and Friday's progress. Now, every single word, sentence, and story is housed in one dedicated space. This creates a powerful chronological portfolio of their learning. When a student flips back to the first page and compares it to their current work, they see tangible evidence of their own growth. This builds an incredible sense of \"writer's identity\" and self-efficacy that a loose-leaf folder simply cannot provide.\r\n\r\nFinally, this project has reclaimed invaluable instructional time. I am no longer spending hours at the copy machine printing lined paper each day, which means I can spend more time planning engaging lessons and working one-on-one with my emerging writers. You have provided my students with a professional, organized tool that tells them their words are important and worth keeping. Your generosity hasn't just given us notebooks; it has given my first graders a permanent place to find their voices and document their journey toward becoming confident, fluent writers.","fullyFundedDate":1758241978379,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-write-with-the-right-lines/9720019/","projectTitle":"Learning to Write With The Right Lines!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nealis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7124345_orig.jpg?crop=273,273,x566,y475&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1631025338756","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsnealis"},{"teacherId":7124345,"projectId":9330667,"letterContent":"The impact of having a full set of high-quality headphones has been a total \"game-changer\" for our daily instructional block. While our district-provided Chromebooks are powerful tools, they only reach their full potential when students can actually hear the lessons. By providing each student with their own reliable pair of headphones, you have created a focused \"audio bubble\" for every child. This allows our individualized intervention programs to run seamlessly; while one student is working on letter sounds, another can be practicing advanced phonics or listening to a digital story, all without the distraction of overlapping noise.\r\n\r\nThe most significant impact has been on the dignity and equity within our room. In the past, students often brought in fragile, low-quality headphones that would break after just a few uses or, worse, snap off inside the computer ports. This created a cycle of frustration where some students had access to their programs while others sat in silence. By ensuring that every student has the exact same high-quality pair, you have leveled the playing field. No child feels \"less than\" because of a broken accessory, and I no longer have to stop instruction to troubleshoot technical failures.\r\n\r\nFinally, these headphones have transformed our standardized testing environment. Testing can be an anxious time for first graders, but having a comfortable, working pair of headphones allows them to hear instructions clearly and focus entirely on showing what they know. This project has given my students the gift of concentration and privacy, allowing them to follow their own unique academic pathways with confidence. Your generosity has ensured that my students' success is determined by their hard work, not by the quality of their equipment.","fullyFundedDate":1756239570186,"projectUrl":"project/hearing-into-digital-inventions-and-test/9330667/","projectTitle":"Hearing into Digital Inventions and Testing!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nealis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7124345_orig.jpg?crop=273,273,x566,y475&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1631025338756","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsnealis"},{"teacherId":7124345,"projectId":9330634,"letterContent":"The introduction of flexible seating, specifically wobble chairs, creates an immediate and profound shift in the classroom dynamic. In a traditional setting, a First Grader who needs to move often spends a significant amount of \"brain power\" just trying to keep their body still in a hard plastic chair. This creates a cognitive drain; they are so focused on sitting \"correctly\" that they have less energy left for phonics or math. By providing these chairs, you are removing that physical barrier. The impact is a classroom where movement is normalized, allowing students to self-regulate their sensory needs without ever having to leave their workspace or stop their task.\r\n\r\nUltimately, this project changes the \"vibe\" of the room from one of restriction to one of active learning. You'll find that when students are physically comfortable and their sensory needs are met, the frequency of interruptions decreases and the joy of discovery increases. These chairs don't just support their bodies; they support their transition into becoming confident, focused scholars who know exactly what they need to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1746813212566,"projectUrl":"project/wiggling-in-1st-grade/9330634/","projectTitle":"Wiggling in 1st Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nealis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7124345_orig.jpg?crop=273,273,x566,y475&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1631025338756","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsnealis"},{"teacherId":5564114,"projectId":9986148,"letterContent":"Thanks to your donation, operating the art room is so much smoother. Using this printer has been exciting and expansive to my students educational program. We use it almost daily. \r\n Using color printing, with the gel pens, plastic sleeves to write on and colorful paper enhances our writing skills, seasonal crafts and MOST importantly has helped us to create realistic and vivid communication symbols (called mands) My low-verbal & non-verbal students are benefitting greatly from this. It empowers their communication as many Autistic students are visual learners. We have even printed their pictures to label their cubbies and materials. They love it. Printing in color was previously unavailable to us in our school due to costs and having this now available is a true blessing. Thank you to all of our donors & the Humble Hearts Foundation for making this happen for my students! We'll make the best of this opportunity for learning that you have given. Having some handy snacks to pass out has really helped with their transition into class, settling down, and putting something in their belly helps them focus better on our lesson and their work. \r\n\r\nAnd in terms of wipes, WOW! The art room can be a bit messy. We try to control it, but it can still get messy sometimes. Using the sink is chaos! I am once again able to provide students with the differentiated packets and hands-on worksheets they need to master first-grade standards, ensuring that our academic momentum doesn't stall simply because the printer is empty.\r\n\r\nThe introduction of the individual pencil boxes has had a profound effect on our classroom culture and management.
