In the neighborhood we serve, students are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding reading materials. The local library is in "Needle Park", a well known drug locale where librarians carry Narcan to do their part in the war on drugs. Due to limited finances in the Philadelphia School District, there are no librarians for our school library. Most of the books our children have access to come from classroom libraries provided by teachers themselves. Providing new, leveled books will help entice young readers and assist them in finding a good fit book that will help them gain confidence as a reader.

About my class
