My students are amazing. It is still early in the school year, but I am already getting to see their personalities shine through. I work in the city and many of my students have stories to tell. The things my kids deal with in their personal home lives are enough to break your heart every day. I want to provide a place where they can feel safe, comfortable, excited, happy, and want to come every day. My school is a k-7 school which will eventually be a k-8. Many people may see Kindergarten as a time of coloring and milk and cookies, but it is so much more. Not only do my kids need to be on expected reading levels, they need to have the writing, math, and social skills to go with it. Every day we work on social skills in association with the academics. It can be challenging some days, but it is so rewarding when that Aha! moment happens. If you've never experienced the genuine enthusiasm a 5 year exudes when figuring something out, especially on their own, then you are sadly missing out
