Our new nets, paddles, balls, and equipment have allowed students to learn and actually PLAY a sport that many of them had never tried before. We started with the basics, including paddle control, serving, and keeping a rally going, before moving into modified games. It has been so much fun watching students go from struggling to make contact with the ball to celebrating when they successfully serve or keep a rally going with a partner!\r\n\r\nThe students were incredibly excited to see the new equipment and especially loved having real pickleball nets set up for them. What I have loved most is seeing how naturally pickleball creates opportunities to practice the skills we talk about throughout PE: teamwork, patience, communication, perseverance, and good sportsmanship. Students have learned to encourage their partners, handle mistakes, make fair calls, and keep trying when a new skill feels difficult.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building students' confidence so they can move from practicing individual skills to playing more independently with their classmates. Because of your support, hundreds of students now have the opportunity to experience a sport they can continue enjoying well beyond our PE class. The new equipment has given us even more opportunities to practice important skills like cooperation, self-control, communication, and leadership while staying active. One of the biggest hits has been our yoga ball drumming activities. Students work together to follow rhythms and movements while practicing focus, coordination, and self-management. The breathing balls have also become a wonderful visual tool for teaching students how to slow down, breathe, and regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nThe students were SO excited when they first saw all of the new equipment! Having colorful, engaging materials like the giant exercise dice, yoga balls, drumsticks, buckets, and other movement equipment immediately made them eager to participate. I especially love seeing students encourage one another, take turns leading activities, and learn that being a leader doesn't always mean being the loudest person in the group. It can mean being a good teammate, making responsible choices, helping others, and setting a positive example.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using these materials, we will build even more opportunities for students to take ownership of games and activities. My goal is for them to carry these skills beyond PE by becoming confident leaders on the playground, in their classrooms, and throughout our school community.
