Like adults, kids have days where they have trouble getting motivated and ready to learn. For most adults, coffee is our go to, but what do our students have? Many are rushed out the door, expected to "get it all together" to be ready for the day. At school, students may see friends and immediately get energy for the day. while others slowly ease in to the morning. There are also many students that need an adult to check in, give a hug, or say something positive to get the day started. Another way to boost self-esteem and set the tone for the day is mindful meditation with apps such as Mind Yeti. A student can choose a 3-5 minute topic to listen to in order to facilitate positive thoughts and goal setting. Students visit the school counselor for many different reasons, many are for social-emotional issues. A peaceful space and a chance to relax can be just the trick to get the student back into learning mode. Using ipad apps can enhance a school counseling program when a student isn't ready to talk face to face.
