Many of my struggling readers especially enjoyed reading this graphic novel because they could read through pictures enabling them the ability to comprehend text that otherwise would've been too difficult had it not been presented with pictures. \r\n\r\nStudents were able to complete projects in which they analyzed characters, identified themes, and other ELA skills through the book's art. The book is a wonderful choice to teach about individuality, stereotypes and bias, and empathy. On top of that it is an excellent resource to teach poetry, tone and mood, and conflict.
