We are already using the new resources to make math learning more hands-on, interactive, and engaging. The classroom whiteboards have been especially helpful during small-group activities and problem-solving stations. Recently, my students participated in a \"Rate and Ratio Scoot,\" where they moved around the classroom solving problems involving ratios, unit rates, and proportions. Students worked together, shared their thinking, and explained their strategies. I was able to walk around the room, give immediate feedback, and see their mathematical reasoning in action. It was wonderful to watch their confidence grow as they realized they could solve challenging problems together.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they first saw the new materials! Many immediately wanted to try them and said that math activities looked more fun and interesting. The hands-on resources have encouraged students to participate more, collaborate with classmates, and take ownership of their learning. Seeing their enthusiasm and excitement has been one of the best parts of receiving these materials.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue exploring proportional relationships and real-world applications of ratios and unit rates. Students will work in groups to create their own real-life math projects, such as designing a lemonade stand or comparing prices to find the best deal. They will solve multi-step problems and explain their mathematical thinking using the Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning (CER) strategy. Many students in special education benefit from tactile supports and sensory tools to help improve focus, reduce anxiety, and maintain attention during instruction. Mr. Strosser allows students to choose and print their own fidgets, which gives students ownership of their learning environment while also encouraging creativity, responsibility, and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nThe 3D printer is also used to create math manipulatives such as geometric solids, fraction models, number lines, rulers, coordinate grids, angle tools, and models for perimeter, area, and volume. These hands-on materials help students better understand abstract math concepts by making learning more visual and tactile. \r\nMany of my students are very curious about how the printer functions and are amazed that it can create things based on changes to simple shapes. One of the students' favorite parts is the Matchbook Summary project we're working on. For each chapter, they create these tiny, foldable matchbooks with a custom illustration on the front and a quote on the inside. It's been a fantastic way to get them excited about the skill of summarizing, and they are really proud of the collection they are building.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been especially noticeable for some of my more reluctant readers who are finally feeling a real connection to a protagonist.
