Aiken New Tech High School is truly such an incredible place for our 175+ students who are learning a new language and culture here in the United States. They work so hard, and it was lovely to be able to let them buy chips, snacks, and popcorn from the school store with their participation points. Several students that are usually too timid to try speaking in front of their peers in English were emboldened by the idea of eating free snacks, and I saw an increase in their participation in class as they were excited to earn points to buy things!\r\n\r\nFebruary was a long month of state testing for all English Language Learners. Each student had to complete four separate state tests to demonstrate their growth in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. In my ten or so years of administering this test to students, I have never seen so many students try their absolute best! The promise of snacks as rewards really motivated my students to show off their learning and spend time on their tests to get the best scores possible. We don't get the scores back until May, but until them I remain unbelievably proud of my students and incredibly grateful to you.","fullyFundedDate":1764862119082,"projectUrl":"project/school-store-rewards-for-our-english-lan/9941000/","projectTitle":"School Store Rewards for Our English Language Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adamson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/aiken-ell"},{"teacherId":4529026,"projectId":9545404,"letterContent":"To my friends and family who made this project possible, thank you. Thus, we still read many books in English class. My favorite days of school were when we were immersed in a story and having vibrant class discussions. I loved sharing my thoughts on literary analysis with my classmates. These days, the focus seems to be on short texts and online articles that do not give you the same feel as a physical book does. Students do not get as many opportunities to immerse themselves in the world of story telling in the ways we used to.\r\n\r\nThus, this has provided my students with an opportunity they do not normally have these days: to fully engage with a text. My students got to flip through these physical books and immerse themselves in the literature. This helped them craft an essay explaining how our fight for freedom changes throughout history. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for making this a reality!","fullyFundedDate":1754488136835,"projectUrl":"project/kindred-how-does-the-struggle-for-fre/9355429/","projectTitle":"\"Kindred\": How does the Struggle for Freedom Change Throughout History?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McDaniel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9154747"},{"teacherId":7042272,"projectId":9448604,"letterContent":"On behalf of my 10th-grade students and myself, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your incredible generosity in funding a classroom supply of healthy snacks. Your contribution has done more than just fill a shelf with food. It has nourished minds, lifted spirits, and helped create a more supportive and nurturing learning environment for every student who walks through my door.\r\n\r\nAs educators, we are often called to go beyond the scope of academics. We are teachers, but we are also mentors, counselors, and caretakers. We do our best to meet students where they are, not only intellectually, but emotionally and physically. Unfortunately, this often means addressing unmet basic needs, like hunger, that directly impact a student's ability to focus, engage, and thrive in school.\r\n\r\nFor many students, school is the one place where they can rely on consistency and care. Yet even here, gaps remain, especially when it comes to ensuring that no student has to sit through a full day of learning on an empty stomach. With your donation, you've helped close one of those critical gaps.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, my classroom will now have a steady supply of healthy snacks, nutritious options that students can access without shame or hesitation. This is a simple, powerful resource. It enables students to better focus during lessons, regulate their emotions more effectively, and feel safe knowing that their well-being is seen and prioritized.\r\n\r\nYour kindness is a reminder to these young people that there are people beyond the walls of their school who care deeply about their success. It fosters trust. It builds community. It changes lives in quiet but profound ways.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the importance of both education and compassion. Your contribution is not just feeding students, it is fueling their potential.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude, \r\n\r\nMs. Miller","fullyFundedDate":1752760038156,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-minds-and-bodies/9448604/","projectTitle":"Fueling Minds and Bodies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7042272_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718928579297","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7042272"},{"teacherId":4529026,"projectId":8893573,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation to my classroom. My student TRULY enjoyed this book.\r\n\r\nOur journey with this book was incredibly special. Not only does the novel mirror recent and current events, we were able to read the novel in the exact same time period that Butler wrote about-- the year 2024. My students are the exact same age as the protagonist -- born in 2009. This allowed them to really connect with Lauren's character on a level I have not seen with other texts.\r\n\r\nRave Reviews for Parable of the Sower (by my class):\r\n\r\n- \"My favorite Black History moment was discovering Octavia Butler's writing.
