We have used each of the materials in different ways. The colored pencils have been used weekly in all three of my current science classes. My middle school science students have used them to document gel electrophoresis results during a lab where we were determining which food dyes are in each color of Skittles. Additionally, they used the glue sticks to make \"science binder collages\" where they cut out science-themed pictures from magazines and glued them to the cover of their binders, where they keep all their papers organized. My middle schoolers used the colored paper to build paper helicopters (called Whirligigs) and to try out different designs to create a Whirligig with the longest time of descent. The paper was the perfect weight for this project, and the colors added fun to the investigation.\r\n\r\nMy high school biology class has used colored pencils to sketch what they see when looking at slides through the microscope, in addition to learning cell structure and function through coloring diagrams of different types of cells. The glue sticks and colored pencils were used in an assignment where students modeled enzyme activity in biology class, as well.\r\n\r\nDuring the second week of school, we have a \"Be Your Best\" week, during which students participate in activities that promote positive growth and mental health. One activity was writing thank-you notes to people who are important to us in our lives. I was able to talk about the importance of showing gratitude to others, as well as the personal mental health benefits of expressing gratitude. We used the notecards, envelopes, and colored pencils to write these thank yous. I plan to do the same activity again with my students around Thanksgiving.\r\n\r\nI love bringing color and art to my science classes to give students an additional way of learning science concepts. It often brings out the talents of students who are exceptional artists and gives me a great way to connect with and celebrate my students. I am very appreciative of your generous donation, and you have positively impacted the students in our rural Wisconsin community.","fullyFundedDate":1755733658178,"projectUrl":"project/merging-art-with-science-and-gratitude/9283108/","projectTitle":"Merging Art with Science and Gratitude","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carlson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8621247_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660492584556","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8621247"},{"teacherId":10010987,"projectId":9307857,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the snacks and tissues stocked in our room, they were so grateful! Having food available helps students stay focused and ready to learn, and the tissues make sure no one has to sit uncomfortably through the day. It's helping create a caring and supportive space where students can concentrate on their learning instead of their basic needs.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these resources daily to build routines where students know they're supported, safe, and cared for. It's wonderful to see them settle into class knowing their needs are being met.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for giving my students this comfort and stability—it really does make a difference every single day!","fullyFundedDate":1746640821194,"projectUrl":"project/basics-to-get-through-the-year/9307857/","projectTitle":"Basics to Get Through the Year","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Loeffelholz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10010987_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746142429817","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10010987"},{"teacherId":3583079,"projectId":9286312,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation.\r\n\r\nThis project takes a full year to complete, and we are just in the beginning stages. Right now, the students are busily deciding which \"gifts\" to create for the final project. They're cutting out Blue and Gold Tangram puzzles (our school colors), assembling the \"Graduate's Survival Kits,\" and packaging the bubble-blowing portion of the project. They're also working on cutting and preparing the cover pages that will wrap each individual gift set.\r\n\r\nIn Semester 2, students will begin constructing the tower. Once built, they'll decorate it using the cover pages and fill the boxes with the gifts they've made.\r\n\r\nTeachers and staff from Pre-K through Grade 12 will also be invited to write notes to the graduating class, making the project even more personal and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThis incredible effort would not be possible without your generous support. I truly cannot thank you enough.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it's a joy to work alongside the students on this project. They're filled with pride and excitement, and it shows in every part of the process.
