Our school lies in small, rural, Wisconsin town. We are a very economically depressed area. Sixty percent of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Due to the current economy, our schools no longer receive the kind of funding they used to from the state. The Phy. Ed. teacher has 300 dollars in her annual budget to buy equipment for all of our 257 students, just over a dollar a student! Needless to say, it doesn't go far. Most teachers buy things out of their own pockets. I am writing this project for some help. We currently have 4 swings, 4 tetherball poles, and a piece of climbing equipment. Not much considering our needy children. Many of our students have very low self esteem and lack social skills in many areas. It's difficult for many of them to play with others. When they arrive on the playground to find a few meager things, they begin to wander aimlessly. This leads to arguments, fights, and not a very relaxing recess for most.
