My students were thrilled when they first saw the new materials—especially the markers, posters, and notebooks. There was a real sense of excitement in the classroom as they realized the possibilities for their future projects. Seeing the colorful supplies inspired them to get creative right away.\r\n\r\nThe first project where we used the materials was for our car wash event. Students worked together to design and create posters to advertise on the streets and attract customers. They enjoyed the opportunity to express their ideas visually, and the project helped build teamwork and communication skills.\r\n\r\nOur English learners have especially benefited from the new notebooks. They've used them several times already, including to write down their thoughts about community service projects before preparing and presenting them. Having these notebooks has allowed them to organize their ideas and practice expressing themselves, even before using PowerPoint or other presentation tools. Next, we plan to keep using these materials to encourage even more creativity and collaboration as we move forward with new projects. These resources are already making a difference, inspiring discussions and encouraging students to explore science both in and out of the classroom.\r\n\r\nSpecifically, some of my more advanced kids have loved reading these books when they are finished with classwork early. Some of my SPED students have really enjoyed getting information from the books in a quiet, alternative location. \r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, all of my students now have the opportunity to read about real-world scientific discoveries, diverse scientists, and exciting concepts that connect directly to our curriculum. My students learned to plan and carry out their own book clubs. They developed their abilities to communicate, take responsibility for their own learning, and be a contributing member of a team.\r\n\r\nIndependent reading has a significant impact on students' literacy. They more they read, the bigger their vocabulary; the more literate students become, the more they can contribute to their communities. They can develop empathy for others who are different from themselves, and they increase their knowledge of the world around them. Your donation allowed students to have a book in their hands that they could take home to read and grow at their own pace.\r\n\r\nSome of my students were especially appreciative of being able to take their books home to read on their own time. This matters because most of our books have to be read in class because we only have class sets. The students also liked being able to choose their own books. We are so appreciative you made this reading experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1720664433528,"projectUrl":"project/strengthening-the-literacy-of-diverse-re/8264379/","projectTitle":"Strengthening the Literacy of Diverse Readers Through Young Adult Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allsup","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9490525_orig.png?crop=338,338,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1710179627415","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9490525"},{"teacherId":4051467,"projectId":8707009,"letterContent":"I am writing this message to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of whiteboard markers to our classroom through DonorsChoose. Your support has truly made a difference in our learning environment, and I am thrilled to share how these markers have transformed the way my students engage with their studies.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, we strive to make learning interactive, engaging, and student-centered. The whiteboard markers have become an essential tool for achieving these goals. One of the most exciting ways we use them is during review games. Each student receives their own personal whiteboard and marker, turning what could be a routine review session into a dynamic and enjoyable activity. As students write their answers, hold them up, and compare responses, the energy and enthusiasm in the room are palpable. This approach not only reinforces the material but also fosters a sense of collaboration and friendly competition among classmates. It's incredible to see even the quieter students eagerly participate and shine during these sessions.","fullyFundedDate":1724693582581,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials-shipment-2024-08-2/8707009/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials Shipment: 2024-08-26","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Mitchell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4051467_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1479131035854","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4051467"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107182","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":401,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":59.0,"schoolId":107182,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Freedom Preparatory Acad-Provo 6-12 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Freedom Preparatory Acad-Provo 6-12","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/utah-department-of-education/freedom-preparatory-academy/107182"}
