Seeing their faces light up as they realized they each had their own high-quality instrument to keep the beat was a highlight of our week. We'll also be integrating our new percussion instruments into our phonics practice using the rhythm sticks to \"tap out\" the syllables in the new words we learn. \r\n\r\nWe are currently putting these materials to work in our \"Shape Detectives\" math unit. We had a lot of fun when I handed out the foam and wooden geometric blocks, and the children were able to handle them and discuss and explore each shape's attributes. The Privacy Shields have been a lifesaver on assessment days, giving each student their own little \"office\" where they can focus deeply on their construction of knowledge without distractions. We used the mini wood rolling pins and Play-Doh to \"flatten\" the shapes and see how a 3D sphere becomes a 2D circle. To help us with a sense of ownership, every student now has a Zipper Pencil Pouch in their desk, which makes them feel so professional and helps keep their supplies organized. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next big step is a seed-growing project. We will be using the Square Plastic Plant Pots to start our very own seedlings, documenting their growth in our journals to track changes. The Barks Headphones have been a total game-changer for our literacy stations. I watched one of my quietest students use the rotating boom mic to record herself reading for the very first time; the smile on her face when she played it back and heard her own voice clearly was priceless. We are also using our new Primary Journals to practice our high-frequency words and sentences. Having the right paper with the drawing space at the top makes them feel like true authors and illustrators, and the Bissell Manual Sweeper has turned our post-art-project cleanup into a fun \"helper\" job that they actually compete to do!
