During a recent lesson, students worked in small groups to explore types of governments found around the world and major historical events during the early 1900s. Instead of relying only on digital maps, they were able to study detailed maps, locate unfamiliar places, and discuss how geography influenced the choices people made throughout history.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the atlases, they were excited to flip through the pages and explore the maps. Many immediately began searching for their locations they had visited, and places they had studied in class. They even loved the new atlas smell which was unexpected and charming. Students commented on the amount of information available in one book and what they could learn from a quick glance. Their curiosity quickly turned into meaningful questions and conversations.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use the atlases during a current project in which students investigate how geography shaped the development of the United States. Students will research a region, examine its physical and human geography, and connect those features to settlement patterns, economic activity, and important historical events. They will use evidence from the atlases to create a presentation explaining how location and geography influenced the story of the region they studied. We are already putting these new resources to good use. The 10-drawer organizer cart, mail sorter, 4-drawer unit, markers, mounting putty, batteries, and Post-it notes are helping us keep our classroom supplies organized and accessible. One of the biggest improvements has been our back science closet, which was overflowing with equipment and honestly a bit of a disaster! The new organizers gave us a way to sort and store materials so that we can actually find what we need. I even showed my students the newly organized closet, and they were surprisingly excited and happy to see that it was no longer such a mess!\r\n\r\nThe Tesla coil and plasma ball were especially exciting additions. When the students first saw them, they immediately wanted to know what they were and when we would get to use them. These materials will become part of our upcoming electromagnetic forces unit, where students will explore electricity, magnetism, and how forces can act at a distance. Instead of only reading about these concepts or looking at pictures, students will get to see some of these ideas demonstrated right in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped us create a classroom that is both better organized and more exciting for hands-on science learning. Having our equipment organized means we can spend less time searching for materials and more time actually doing science. We are looking forward to bringing out the Tesla coil and plasma ball during our electromagnetic forces unit and seeing the students' reactions when they get to experience these phenomena firsthand. The hands-on materials helped students learn by actually doing science rather than just reading about it. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity as they investigated magnets and discovered how they behave.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also been incredibly useful throughout the year. Students have used them for videos, assignments, and other digital activities, but they were especially important during our end-of-year testing. Having reliable headphones allowed students to focus and complete their testing without unnecessary distractions.\r\n\r\nThe spike tape made an impact outside of the science classroom as well. Our school play truly could not have happened without it! It helped us safely mark locations and organize the stage so students knew exactly where scenery, equipment, and performers needed to be. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping provide experiences that our students will remember. This donation made it possible for my students to better navigate the classroom, be more organized in putting away the chairs at the end of the week, and the biggest help of all - we were able to move our chairs in and out of an elevator between our stage and our classroom. \r\nWe have a small classroom, and organization needs to be optimized for us to navigate the space. Our chair racks have created vertical storage for our chairs that is compact and easy to move around. My students have become chair stacking pros and our floor is so much more clean at the end of the week. Moving our chairs onto our stage required us to carry each chair down the stairs one by one, and now we can move our chairs on their racks up and down the elevator, saving us time AND making the procedure safer for our students!\r\nThank you again for donating to this project.
