Because of your kindness, my first-grade students have had the opportunity to imagine, create, and learn through hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity and a love of learning.\r\n\r\nThe STEM bins have quickly become some of the most popular learning tools in our classroom. Students eagerly work together to build, design, test, and redesign their creations. As they experiment through trial and error, they are developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and engineering skills while discovering that mistakes are simply part of the learning process.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic benefits, these activities have strengthened important social skills. Students collaborate, communicate ideas, listen to one another, and celebrate each other's successes. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as they tackle new challenges and realize that there are many creative ways to solve a problem.\r\n\r\nThe paper and printer ink have also made a tremendous difference. My students love designing their ideas, creating blueprints, and then bringing those plans to life as three-dimensional projects. Seeing their own designs transition from paper to reality has made learning meaningful and exciting while reinforcing the engineering design process in an age-appropriate way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided so much more than classroom supplies. You have given my students opportunities to think creatively, persevere through challenges, and experience the joy of discovering what they are capable of accomplishing. These are skills and memories they will carry with them far beyond first grade.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for investing in their future. Your kindness has created a space where students feel safe, supported, and understood, and the impact has been truly remarkable.\r\n\r\nEvery day, students come to school carrying more than just backpacks. Some are navigating anxiety, trauma, ADHD, autism, or other challenges that can make it difficult to focus, regulate emotions, and fully participate in learning. Thanks to your generosity, they now have a welcoming space where they can pause, regulate, and return to the classroom ready to succeed.\r\n\r\nThe sensory tools, weighted blankets, soft seating, noise-canceling headphones, calming lights, and other resources have become invaluable supports for our students. They are learning to recognize when they need a break, choose the tools that help them regulate, and develop healthy coping strategies they can use both in and out of the classroom. Rather than becoming overwhelmed, many students are now able to calm themselves more quickly and rejoin learning with renewed confidence.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most inspiring is seeing the growth in our students' confidence and independence. The sensory room has become more than just a calming space—it has become a place where students learn that it is okay to ask for what they need and that everyone learns differently. This has helped foster a classroom culture of empathy, inclusion, and acceptance.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided much more than sensory equipment. You have given our students the opportunity to feel successful, valued, and ready to learn. The positive impact will continue long after this school year, as students build lifelong self-regulation skills that support both their academic and personal growth.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students and our entire classroom community, thank you for believing in them and for helping create a learning environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1764736411958,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-haven-supporting-regulation-and/9930455/","projectTitle":"Sensory Haven: Supporting Regulation and Learning for All Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp307088_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1491266468648","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/haley-mccall"},{"teacherId":307088,"projectId":8592070,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom through DonorsChoose. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference for both my students and me.\r\n\r\nThe eco-friendly printer has transformed the way I create learning materials. I can now print colorful, high-quality resources at a much lower cost than our previous laser printer. The money we save on printing allows me to stretch our classroom budget further and purchase additional supplies that directly benefit my first-grade students. Instead of worrying about the cost of every color page, I can focus on creating engaging activities that make learning more exciting and accessible.\r\n\r\nThe adjustable standing desk has also become an invaluable part of our classroom. During whole-group lessons, I can comfortably stand and maintain a clear view of every student, allowing me to monitor understanding and provide support as needed. When it's time to work one-on-one or in small groups, I can lower the desk to sit at eye level with my students, creating a more personal and supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, my students have access to better instructional materials and a classroom that supports their learning in meaningful ways. Your investment goes far beyond providing equipment—it helps create engaging lessons, stronger student connections, and more opportunities for every child to succeed.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for helping make our classroom a place where they can learn, grow, and thrive. After teaching second grade for 18 years straight, I took a chance and moved to fourth grade this year, and I'm so glad I did. One of the biggest impacts your donations have had is in the area of reading. I asked for books to transform my lower elementary school library into something fourth graders have loved, and you delivered!\r\n Developing a love for reading opens so many doors for students both academically and emotionally. For me, this starts with students choosing any book that interests them no matter their reading level - picture books, magazines, graphic novels, really whatever appeals to them. But it is my job as a teacher to help them grow beyond that. \r\n I started by reading aloud the first chapter of some of the books you sent. Books from Roald Dahl, Tui T. Sutherland, Lauren Tarshis, and J.K. Rowling. Now my students flock to those chapter books (Wings of Fire is an absolute favorite). Moreover, these boards have found additional utility in our math practice sessions, where students solve problems and demonstrate their understanding in a visual and dynamic manner.\r\n\r\nThe spiral binding machine and extra bindings have enabled us to create personalized student workbooks, thereby providing tailored resources that align with our curriculum goals.
