Students took turns taking photos as part of an outdoor nature scavenger hunt. It was really awesome to teach them how to properly use a camera that wasn't pre-programmed on a touchscreen phone. They learned how to switch between video and camera modes, night view versus day time view, and more. You'd be surprised how many kids have never touched a digital camera or even know what a polaroid is for that matter. The digital tablets and the 3D pens were also a big hit this summer. Kids enjoyed using the template guide to make things like 3D glasses and butterflies. As we go forward with these new tools, i'd love to see kids figure out how to use these tools in their own art making processes. My ultimate goal is for each lesson i teach, kids get to pick a preferred medium to achieve their project; so some kids may pick painting, but someone else may pick 3D pens, or photography to do their project. This was our first time working with the crayola air dry clay and we learned how messy it can get, how easily it dried overnight and many ways to manipulate it using our hands and water. My students were really excited to finally get some pottery-style level clay in the room. We often use a cheaper version more similar to dough. So, i really appreciate the donors for making this opportunity possible for them. My next steps are to expand on their usage of clay, techniques, and clay tool usage.
