I created this project early in the year before I came to understand that Harding Charter Preparatory High School only allows teachers to teach the material covered by the Advanced Placement test. They do that even though only about 10% of their students take the test, and even less pass the test. The school is comprised of only Pre Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement courses, so students have no choice and no resources for help. It is sink or swim, and most students barely tread water.\r\n\r\nI taught at Harding Charter Preparatory High School for one year after teaching at the university level for about 25 years. I can't tell you how disappointed I was in their curriculum and administration. They have an average faculty turn over of 56% each year. I watched as they replaced veteran teachers over the age of 40 with the newly credentialed. They did this to save money, then they gave the Superintendent a raise. \r\n\r\nMy hope with this project was to give my students an authentic Oklahoma experience in the Writing classroom. Even though this book is currently being used at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University in their Freshman English classes, Harding Charter Preparatory High School will not be using the book. \r\n\r\nPlease don't spend any of your resources in supporting this school. After teaching first year university students for most of my life, I wanted to contribute to improving the local high schools. I was excited about teaching students before they got to college. The school, however, was not interested in providing a college preparatory environment; they only cared about the test. It was disappointing.","fullyFundedDate":1744212710958,"projectUrl":"project/oklahoma-history-for-oklahoma-students/9112954/","projectTitle":"Oklahoma History for Oklahoma Students","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Camacho","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796831"},{"teacherId":9172332,"projectId":9448801,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! Your support plays a critical role in enhancing the well-being of our students, and I am truly appreciative of your contribution.\r\n\r\nAs a high school guidance counselor, my mission is to foster an environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to manage the various challenges they face, both academically and emotionally. In recent years, we have seen an increasing need for emotional support, especially as students navigate the complexities of adolescence, mental health struggles, and the pressures of academic life.\r\n\r\nThe sensory and emotion regulation tools you've made possible have already begun to make a meaningful impact. Items like stress balls, fidget tools, mindfulness games, and calming visual aids provide students with essential resources to manage their emotions in a healthy and productive way. Many students experience moments of anxiety, frustration, or overwhelm, and these tools offer them the opportunity to regain composure, focus, and clarity when they need it most.\r\n\r\nWhat is truly special about the items we have acquired is how they support a wide range of students—whether it's a student needing a moment to de-escalate, a teen working through social-emotional learning exercises, or a young person seeking a peaceful space to reflect. These resources are instrumental in helping students build emotional resilience, and they empower them with coping strategies they can carry with them in the classroom and beyond.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation goes far beyond simply providing items—it is a gift that reverberates throughout the entire school community. Your support shows that you understand the importance of addressing emotional health and well-being, which are just as critical as academic success. By investing in these tools, you have made a direct contribution to the mental health of our students, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive in both their personal and academic lives.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of the students and myself, I want to thank you for your generosity. The difference you are making is immeasurable, and I am deeply appreciative of your commitment to helping students succeed in all aspects of their lives. Please know that your kindness is helping shape a healthier, more resilient generation of young people.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your thoughtful donation. I look forward to keeping you updated on how these tools continue to support our students, and I am grateful for your ongoing belief in the importance of mental health in education.","fullyFundedDate":1727731979177,"projectUrl":"project/from-stress-to-success-emotional-suppor/8800170/","projectTitle":"From Stress to Success!
