The markers, pencils, crayons, and snacks may seem like simple supplies, but they are items my students use every day. Having these resources available means that my students can come to class prepared to learn, participate in activities, and focus on their schoolwork without worrying about whether they have the supplies they need.\r\n\r\nWe use the markers, pencils, and crayons for a variety of classroom activities. My students regularly create maps, timelines, graphic organizers, posters, and other hands-on projects while learning history. Recently, students have been working on activities related to European exploration, Indigenous peoples, trade, and cultural change. Instead of simply taking notes, students have been able to use the supplies to create visual representations of what they are learning. This gives them an opportunity to be creative while also demonstrating their understanding of important historical concepts.\r\n\r\nThe students were especially excited when they saw the new supplies. They were eager to choose their colors and begin using the materials for their projects. Something as simple as having a variety of markers and crayons can make an assignment feel more exciting and give students a sense of ownership over their work. I have noticed that students are often more willing to participate when they can create something, work with their classmates, and have the supplies necessary to complete the activity.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have also been an important addition to our classroom. Having snacks available allows me to support students who may come to class hungry or need a little extra energy during the school day. When students are hungry, it can be difficult for them to concentrate on a lesson or complete their work. Providing a small snack helps students feel cared for and allows them to return their attention to learning.\r\n\r\nThese resources have helped me create a classroom where students feel supported and prepared. My goal is for every student to know that they have what they need to be successful. Whether they are completing a history assignment with a pencil, creating a colorful project with markers and crayons, or enjoying a snack before continuing their work, these resources help remove small barriers that can interfere with learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these supplies as we move through our current history units. Students will be completing more hands-on activities, creating projects, reviewing important historical concepts, and practicing their writing and critical-thinking skills.
