Close your eyes….Imagine you as a teenager at your high school, and a flyer is taped on the pole out in front of school. The words “cotton candy and fresh popped popcorn” catch your attention and you get excited immediately.
Now open your eyes.
The research shows our students are at risk of suffering debilitating consequences on their mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented us with myriad of challenges, and the way we respond is going to shape the mental health of adolescents for the future.
Bottom line students will benefit the most from this trailblazing student focused club. Obviously education is a priority in Oklahoma because it’s offering teachers the resources we need for our students. We have no choice, it’s our future.
Students deserve to know and be shown unconditional love and support in a safe social relaxed settings to help cope during this pandemic. I plan to allow students to learn the ends and out of making cotton candy and popcorn to snack on while we volunteer to sew quilts and teddy bears for a non profit. Also a self care lesson preferably student led such as mediation, gratitude, physical activity game, or other care topics included in the emotional health materials. In addition, accessibility to mental health resources and collaboration with the community via a table and informational bulletin board in my room where the club will meet.
