These supplies are used regularly in our P.E. classes, girls strength and conditioning, and before- and after-school athletics, but they are also available to any student who needs them.\r\n\r\nThe materials provided through this project have allowed me to keep these resources stocked and ready instead of worrying about running out of the items students reach for most often. Having snacks and food available helps students who are hungry get through the day with more energy and focus. Hygiene items give students a way to freshen up after P.E., workouts, or practice and help them feel more confident returning to class. First-aid supplies allow us to quickly take care of the small everyday needs that come with active students and athletics.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher and coach, one of the biggest impacts of this project is simply being able to say, \"Yes, I have something for you,\" when a student comes to me needing help. Instead of allowing a small need to become a distraction, we can take care of it quickly and allow that student to get back to learning, participating, and being part of their day.\r\n\r\nThese materials also allow me to spend more of my own time and resources focusing on teaching, coaching, and creating positive experiences for our students. Our school day does not end until 3:20 p.m., and on away-game days, our teams may be loading the bus and leaving by 3:45. On home-game days, athletes are often beginning their pre-game preparation around 4:00. As middle school students, they cannot simply drive somewhere to get something to eat, and many do not have spending money or another reliable way to get food during that short window between school and competition.\r\n\r\nFueled Before Tip-Off gives us the ability to provide something dependable for our athletes during that gap. These resources will help our players maintain their energy, stay focused, and arrive at the court prepared to represent our school.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes beyond simply providing a snack. It allows our athletes to know that someone has thought ahead for them and made sure one of their basic needs is taken care of before they compete. Because of your generosity, my girls have been able to come into our early-morning basketball workouts with access to breakfast snacks and plenty of Gatorade to help them fuel and hydrate before beginning their school day.\r\n\r\nOur preseason workouts begin at 7:00 a.m., and for many of my athletes, that means arriving at school well before most students are even awake and starting their day with an hour of basketball. These girls are working on fundamentals, conditioning, confidence, and preparing themselves for tryouts and the upcoming season. Having breakfast snacks and drinks available has allowed me to make sure that they are not trying to practice on an empty stomach or go straight from a hard workout into a full school day without something to refuel them.\r\n\r\nWhat may seem like something small—a Pop-Tart, a Gatorade, or simply knowing there is something available when they need it—has made a real difference. My girls know that when they walk into our gym in the morning, they are supported not only as athletes, but as students and young people.\r\n\r\nYour support has also taken a burden off of me as their coach. Instead of being held back by the cost of a calculator, students can now practice using calculator functions, checking their work, and solving more complex problems with confidence.\r\n\r\nFor students who may not have access to technology at home, having their own calculator to use in the classroom has been especially valuable. Some of my students have really embraced the calculators because they want to succeed but sometimes face financial barriers that make classroom supplies difficult to afford. They have allowed me to create a more structured, organized, and complete learning environment inside a space that is not traditionally set up like a classroom.\r\n\r\nThe clipboards have been especially valuable because our gym does not have desks. Each student is now able to have their own workspace for journal entries, curriculum activities, health lessons, goal setting, and other written assignments. The pencils, highlighters, markers, paper, and cardstock have also made it possible for me to provide every student with the supplies they need without requiring them to bring materials from home.\r\n\r\nBecause these resources are readily available, students can come into class prepared to learn without worrying about whether they remembered a pencil, notebook, or other school supplies. The organizing cart has helped keep everything together, easy to access, and ready to use, which has made transitions between physical activity and classroom-style learning much smoother.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these materials have helped me expand what physical education looks like for my students. I have been able to incorporate more textbook-style curriculum, health education, written reflection, goal setting, and academic learning into PE while still focusing on movement, fitness, and wellness.
