This year I have 10 5th graders reading Wonder at my two schools. I will use this book again regularly, so many more students will enjoy this fantastic tale of 5th graders navigating friendship and empathy for others who are different from them. \r\n\r\nMy students are loving Wonder! The are very excited to see how the different scenes are viewed by the different characters. The book is written in a first-person point of view, written \"through the eyes\" of a character, but interestingly each section of the book is written from the point of view of a different character of the story. So, we have talked a lot about the author's craft and how she uses point of view to advance the story and the themes. The students compared and contrasted different scenes. summarized sections, and are currently starting a choice project as a summative assessment on the book. \r\n\r\nThanks so much for giving me the ability to teach this book to my students. I have 13 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at two urban schools reading the classic science fiction novel, Ender's Game, and loving it. I plan to use this book again in the future, so additional students will benefit from your gift.\r\n\r\nEnder's Game is a fantastic novel for gifted students. It is about academically gifted students, particularly Andrew \"Ender\" Wiggin, who are removed from their families and sent to a battle school in orbit around the Earth in a future when the planet is threatened by war from an alien race. Ender, a young but brilliant child, must navigate this world to try to become the battle leader that Earth needs. I am using it to teach the limitations of third person limited point of view, as well as to teach physics (in the weightless battle room situation), the ethics of choosing to follow orders or not during battle, and the impact of empathy on relationships between people and our interactions with each other. Another major theme in the book is what makes a good leader. It is a fascinating book to study and the students are really enjoying it. The book fits the science fiction units of our 7th and 8th grade students, as well.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping me to bring one of my favorite novels to my students.
