This project will give my students the opportunity to apply the map skills they learned to a real-life project, while helping with fine motor skills. It will give them a deeper understanding of the world we live in, including spatial sense of the continents and oceans as well as map skills like cardinal directions to name a few. Our school does not have an art department with resources to share for projects like these. The plan is for students to create a paper mache globe from a balloon and newspaper dipped in glue. Then paint the oceans blue, and cut the continents out of green paper. I requested Velcro dots for a few students who need extra help, and a crate to hold our supplies, as we share a room with another teacher and need a designated place for our materials. Cleaning supplies will enable students to be responsible and clean up their mess when done. Our globes will be displayed from the ceiling with string.
