Flexible seating is a must have for my little kindergarteners. I am a first year teacher and have taken over a Kindergarten class mid year. Most of my students did not attend preschool and if they did it was cut short due to Covid-19. They have had a rough first half of the year with having three different teachers. They have not learned routines and I'm trying to show them some. I have noticed that due to the lack of preschool and the fact that the students have been in the comfort of their home for many months, they cannot sit and focus on the task at hand. My students are from an unban community where many rely on free breakfast and lunch. Their parents do not have the means to help provide all of the extra things their children need in school for ultimate success. Flexible seating and a place to calm down when they have become anxious or angry will help provide a better school experience and help me as the teacher take them from the level they are at now, to a first grade level. Flexible seating is one of many things that can help bring them closer to being successful with controlling their bodies and getting focused and ready and able to learn. I am looking forward to sharing pictures with you of my comfortable, ready to learn kiddies once my project is funded.
