I teach students identified as gifted learners at two schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Luis Munoz Marin on the city's west side, and Wade Park on the east side. My students are talented in reading, math, they are creative, and they are excellent learners. They are bright, funny, and engaged, but they are also urban students from disadvantaged backgrounds with all of the emotional baggage that entails. Luis Munoz Marin Dual Language Academy provides core class instruction in English and Spanish to all students. Many students are Hispanic, though there is also a sizable percentage of Black and White non-Hispanic students as well. Wade Park School focuses on assuring that students are equipped for learning using 21st century technology. Located in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods, Wade Park is focused on growing thoughtful scholars who live up to our high expectations for them.
