Because of you, we were able to purchase dozens of excellent new books for our library. As a fairly new librarian, I am doing all I can to find ways to improve our library collection, since so many of our books are outdated. DonorsChoose has really helped!\r\nMany of my older students are caught up in the series called \"Wings of Fire.\" This series was recently released in a graphic novel format. It is my hope that many students will be drawn to the graphic novels first, but will then graduate to read the original novels. We were also able to purchase an art book that teaches how to draw Wings of Fire pictures.\r\nWe were also able to build up areas of nonfiction with several new Science Comics books. These books are graphic novel books that teach about various topics such as cars, frogs, or rocks and minerals. Because kids love graphic novels, they are drawn to these books. But they can learn so much information from them. I have had a former nurse take a look at the books and she was impressed. They are written on a 3rd grade level, but there was plenty of information that was new to me. At my age, I need to make sure we have plenty of good doctors and nurses ready to go in the future. These books may get some of our students inspired to head to medical school.\r\nI also love a series of physical science books including Matter and Energy. \r\nAnother series that children are going to love if they can stop giggling is from Picture Book Science. It is all about animal adaptations, and includes titles like Spit Nests, Puke Power, and other Brilliant Bird Adaptations. \r\nMany of my students would read only graphic novels if we let them. Plus, some of the books are informational, while others are sports stories.\r\nI am hoping that some of my reluctant readers that love soccer will be drawn into reading these books and will start to develop a love of reading. \r\nThank you for helping me build up a weak spot in my library collection. Most of my soccer books before this project were pretty old, but students were still checking them out. Now we have brand new books. I like the phrase, \"Nothing but the best books for our kids.\" Thank you for helping make this happen.\r\nI will keep working at building up weak sections of our library. A girl who was celebrating Ramadan came to the library over her lunch period and worked on this set. She was so excited when she got it done. I took a picture of her with the set and sent it to her mother who was also very excited.\r\nThe hibiscus flowers look amazing, and they are also being displayed in the library.\r\nThe pirate ship is over halfway done. Again, it is my hope that the graphic novel versions of these stories will lead readers into the original series. I am seeing that happen, and that makes me happy. I want readers to enjoy graphic novels, but I also want them to become well-rounded readers.\r\nThank you so much for helping me build up my library, and for building up my graphic novel section, since that is an area that is used extensively. \r\nI love the variety that this project gives us. My students and I were so excited to receive these new resources, and they have already made a big impact on our learning.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the materials in small group math, especially as we work through dividing with two-digit divisors and making sense of remainders (which is no small task in 5th grade!). Having these tools has helped my students slow down their thinking and actually see what's happening in the problem instead of just guessing or rushing through. One moment that stuck with me was a student who usually hangs back suddenly jumping in to explain their strategy to the group—and they were right. That kind of confidence is huge.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we're going to keep using these resources to support our small groups and build stronger problem-solving habits. My goal is to help students not just get answers, but understand how they got there and feel confident explaining their thinking. These materials are helping make that happen.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students.
