Developing a sense of community makes all the difference in a classroom. With our school, possessing such a diverse population, this makes that much more importance if we want to create high achievers. Just in my classroom alone, students from the Middle East, Russia, and Mexico all come together to make up our class and community. In a second grade class, as children are just beginning to develop relationships with others and learning how to foster strong relationships, proper character education is key. Because of this, and the social studies curriculum in 2nd grade of communities, I feel this focus on diversity will help them become global learners.
