I thought of this project very much as a Wish List of what materials I would most like to send my students home with over the summer, and my wishes were fulfilled because of you.\r\n\r\nEach child in my class will go home with a tote full of materials to help them meet and exceed expectations for literacy in the coming year. The alphabet writing book was chosen because it can be used over and over and also because it is one of the few workbooks that stresses the exact strokes children will be expected to make when they start to write letters and words in Kindergarten. Because our class is already proficient with letter recognition and letter sounds, the two sets of Bob Books Decodable readers are a perfect next step for diving into reading real books with narratives. When the children saw the beautiful composition books with spaces for picture making they all immediately wanted to start creating stories. And who can blame one for feeling that way when you have a gorgeous set of artist's colored pencils?","fullyFundedDate":1777944995756,"projectUrl":"project/were-growing-going-up-up-up-into-rea/10261119/","projectTitle":"We're Growing Going Up, Up, Up, into Readers and Writers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Czapsky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3988484_orig.png?crop=974,974,x0,y152&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739024310636","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3988484"},{"teacherId":64140,"projectId":10183285,"letterContent":"It was donated just in time before this school year ended! Your\r\nsupport has transformed our classroom environment, allowing us to implement a\r\nsmall-group learning structure that was previously impossible.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these stools extends far beyond just providing a place to sit. By creating dedicated stations for small-group work, we have seen a remarkable shift in\r\nclassroom dynamics. One of the most heartening changes has been the increased\r\nparticipation from students who are normally hesitant to speak up during whole-class\r\ninstruction. In the security of a small group, these students feel more\r\ncomfortable sharing their hypotheses and asking clarifying questions. Every student\r\nnow has a voice in the scientific process.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the students have reacted incredibly positively to this new arrangement. We have observed a significant improvement in focus; being in close proximity to their peers and the teacher helps them stay on task. This heightened\r\nengagement has directly translated into better comprehension of complex scientific\r\nconcepts. When students can immediately discuss an observation with their group,\r\nthe learning becomes active and enduring rather than passive.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has provided my students with the tools they need to collaborate,\r\ncommunicate, and think like scientists. When I got this job in 2009, the room was full of terrible, cheap instruments. I vowed to replace each one (eventually) so that my students could experience the joy of playing an instrument without having to fight against a poor-quality horn. We've been very fortunate over the years, and we donate our old instruments to schools that are needier than ours. A cheap clarinet is better than no clarinet!\r\n\r\nOver the years we've managed to build a respectable fleet of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones, but the expensive instruments had to wait. We finally obtained a tuba, a baritone saxophone, a couple of tenor saxophones, and some baritone horns. But the elusive French horn... how could we afford that?\r\n\r\nThis year I decided to go for it, trusting that the network of givers on Donors Choose might be large enough to net some folks who specifically wanted to provide quality wind instruments for students. And it paid off! Thanks to you, we've got an exceptionally bright and hard-working kid learning the F Horn, and the entire band is better for it. I'm actually touched by how excited the OTHER kids are that someone ELSE got a new instrument! \r\n\r\nYour generosity will never be forgotten, because dozens of students will be able to play this instrument over the years, and create lasting memories.","fullyFundedDate":1766182350824,"projectUrl":"project/double-your-horn-double-your-fun/9811538/","projectTitle":"Double Your Horn, Double Your Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sutton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2644029_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1448304686777","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nate-sutton"},{"teacherId":64140,"projectId":9918691,"letterContent":"Thank you the new collections for my second graders. Many of my students benefit from hearing the text read aloud while following along. For students with learning differences, accessing the novel through audio allows them to focus on comprehension and analysis rather than getting stuck on decoding. It has also been especially helpful for students who struggle to sustain attention; the audio support helps them remain engaged and better track the author's word choice, tone, and persuasive techniques.\r\n\r\nThe planner and organizer binders are supporting students as we transition into persuasive writing. Students are using them to organize notes on propaganda techniques, track evidence from the text, and plan their argumentative responses. Many of my students struggle with executive functioning skills such as organizing materials and managing multi-step assignments. Having a structured system has helped them keep their work in one place and break the writing process into manageable steps.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were excited to set up their binders and immediately began organizing their materials. Establishing clear routines around these tools has helped create a calmer, more focused learning environment.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include drafting and revising persuasive pieces in which students analyze how language is used to influence power and control in the novel. The headphones and organizational systems will continue to support students as they gather textual evidence, structure their arguments, and revise their writing.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a classroom where accessibility is built into our daily instruction and students are empowered with tools that increase independence and confidence. The iPads enable us to record where we ended a class so we can pick up right where we left off in the last class.\r\n\r\nWe also have used the iPads to translate tasks into other languages and provide a printed version of the assignment. This is the format that the students will have for the Regents so this gives them practice in working with a paper translation along with the original Regents exam.\r\n\r\nWe haven't been able to leave the new iPads out for general access because we don't yet have protective cases.
