When students don't have the words to describe their tough feelings, it can lead to classroom disruption and academic issues. When they are able to explore challenging and troubling feelings in a safe environment, they are able to connect them to equally challenging behaviors. My students respond really well to drawing about their feelings with markers and pens, and shaping and molding their feelings with clay. I help kids "talk" about their feelings by exploring them through art, which allows them to develop the coping skills that they need to be successful in the classroom and in their everyday life.
