My students are using our new resources DAILY. In fact, some students who don't have me in class this semester still stop by because thanks to your generosity, they already know that they can count on OUR classroom to have JUST what they need for use in school each day! It feels really good knowing that the kids have a safe, reliable, \"home\" classroom to come to for whatever they might need (while still maintaining their dignity and not having to feel embarrassed by having to ask).\r\n\r\nThe students' reactions were absolutely priceless when they first saw that our new materials were all for THEM! Their mouths fell open as they realized that there is still so much kindness, love, grace, generosity, and goodness in the world. \"People donated to US?\" \"They did this for OUR class?\" These were some of the surprised, excited questions I received when the kids first started opening packages and using the materials. To see the students' warm smiles and genuine contentment just meant the world--especially in a school district where many of our kids are used to doing without.\r\n\r\nThankfully, these items arrived just in time... Our Donors Choose project was specific to helping our students face the rough, raw, bitter New Jersey wintertime. Everything from warm beanie/woolly caps to hand lotion for dry skin, our kids had what they needed from the very first snowflake that fell! As you know, the Northeast faced TWO separate winter storms this year (one of which was a BLIZZARD!), and before that even happened, my students were able to receive what they needed right from our English classroom. During daily class time, our kids have also been able to use the pencils and highlighters that were provided by your generous donations. It's not as though students had to wait for a particular lesson or unit to come up; they were able to use our new supplies as SOON as they arrived to school--and it's all thanks to YOU!!\r\n\r\nOnce again, we can't thank you enough for your support and immense generosity. Because of wonderful donors like you, our classroom is a happy, safe, warm, and loving space where students thrive...because if basic needs are met, they can relax in a learning environment that helps them meet their goals every day! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts; please know that your donations are put to use EVERY day, and our Trenton Central High School students are better off because of kind-hearted donors like you. Because of your thoughtful contribution of heat packs, they are able to stay warm and comfortable on their journeys. Something as simple as warmth can make a huge difference in helping them arrive ready to learn and return home safely.\r\nYour support also helps us continue our special \"Fun Fridays,\" which have become a highlight for the class. These days are filled with hands-on learning activities that spark creativity, teamwork, and excitement. Being able to provide hot chocolate, popcorn, and Kind bars during these activities creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere that students truly look forward to. These small treats make learning even more engaging and memorable.\r\nAdditionally, during this season when many students are dealing with runny noses, colds, or allergies, your donations of hand sanitizer and tissues help keep our classroom healthier and more comfortable. Having these essential supplies readily available allows students to focus on learning while also taking care of their well-being.\r\nYour generosity goes far beyond the items themselves — it brings comfort, joy, and support to children who truly benefit from your kindness. Just last week, a student who frequently sat out of activities due to self-consciousness was able to use the new products to freshen up, resulting in full participation in our strength training unit. Beyond just physical cleanliness, this project has fostered a sense of self-care and dignity among my students. We are now in the process of incorporating lessons on personal health and hygiene into our Lifelong Wellness curriculum, encouraging them to take ownership of their wellness.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these donations have inspired a new, ongoing project. Next, my students will work on a \"Health and Hygiene Portfolio\" where they will research the long-term benefits of daily personal care habits and create posters for the locker rooms to promote wellness to the rest of the school. Because of your generosity, students are now able to access shelf-stable, nutritious ingredients that they can discreetly bring home and use to prepare real meals for themselves and their families. We have organized the materials into accessible meal kits that students can select based on their needs, and one of the most powerful moments came when a student quietly shared that this was the first time they felt confident bringing food home that would \"actually make dinner.\" The resources have become more than supplies, they have created relief, dignity, and a sense of stability for students who often carry heavy responsibilities outside of school.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, the reaction was a mix of excitement and gratitude, but also noticeable relief. Several students asked thoughtful questions about how to combine ingredients into complete meals, which led to organic conversations about nutrition, planning, and independence. Instead of feeling like recipients of charity, students felt empowered to make choices and take ownership of feeding themselves and their families.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue integrating these resources into ongoing lessons around wellness, planning, and self-advocacy. Students are beginning to discuss budgeting, meal planning, and how nutrition supports physical and mental performance especially for those balancing academics, athletics, and family responsibilities.
