With the help of donors like you, I have been able to normalize addressing hygiene issues so students can maintain their dignity and get back to learning. \r\n The closet in my classroom is available for all students. It is not unusual for one of my current or former students to introduce the closet to a friend, who is obviously worried about an issue like an unexpected period, deodorant that failed after physical education class or a bad hair day; after a brief visit in \"the closet\" students leave feeling reassured that their issue will not impede his or her ability to focus on education. The closet is used so frequently, by so many different students that needing a little something to address an issue has become normalized and the anxiety that used to be experienced by so many students about hygiene issues are greatly reduced. \r\n Please know that your assistance in this effort is greatly appreciated. As intended, this project is serving its purpose by establishing a culture where students can learn and not be derailed by issues related to a now easily fixable hygiene issue.","fullyFundedDate":1755745608767,"projectUrl":"project/hygiene-must-not-hinder-student-learning/9576645/","projectTitle":"Hygiene Must Not Hinder Student Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harrison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6360601_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1678145028875","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6360601"},{"teacherId":9785776,"projectId":9708851,"letterContent":"My students were so happy with your donations. And an even bigger THANK YOU for supporting my DonorsChoose project, \"Providing Warmth, Care and Hunger Relief for TCHS Students.\" Your generosity made a real difference for our students here at Trenton Central High School.\r\n\r\nWith your help, we were able to stock up on some much-needed essentials—things like body spray deodorant, wipes, snacks, socks, T-shirts, and even menstrual kits. These items might seem small, but they've had a huge impact. Students who came to school hungry or without basic hygiene items were able to grab what they needed without feeling embarrassed or singled out. It's been a quiet but powerful way to show them that they're cared for.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts is seeing their reactions. Some were surprised that I had t-shirts and body spray to offer along with the snacks. Others would smile and ask for more than one snack, but they all would say \"thank you,\" afterwards. I could tell it meant a lot to them. The snacks were a hit of course! We did have one incident, nothing traumatic, were I was able to offer the skin-tone bandages, which really surprised the young ladies. That was a very thoughtful touch and really showed that this was about more than just supplies. It was about dignity and connections.\r\n\r\nNext up, I'm hoping to keep this going by establishing a permanent wellness closet/station in the school. We are hoping to partner with another company, Shine and Inspire Closet. We want students to always have access to these kinds of resources, and we're hoping to involve them in choosing what goes into future care packages. It's all part of building a school culture rooted in empathy, respect, and care.\r\n\r\nThanks again for being part of this journey. You helped us create something meaningful, and we're so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1744138674349,"projectUrl":"project/providing-warmth-care-and-hunger-relief/9219307/","projectTitle":"Providing Warmth, Care and Hunger Relief for TCHS Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haqq","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp124334_orig.jpg?crop=920,920,x15,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699813381197","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hhaqq"},{"teacherId":131590,"projectId":9058507,"letterContent":"In the time since my project was funded, my classroom has been transformed. Thank you so much! Students use the cubbies daily to hold their textbooks, notebooks, and class handouts. This has been very helpful in allowing kids who do not have a place to keep their school items at home, as well as kids who feel self conscious about carrying books around during the school day to have their learning materials organized and available. The books have been very popular during our reading time, and are being used daily, passed from student to student as they finish reading and tell their friends about the books they liked best. \r\n\r\nI think the most impactful part of this project has been having a class set of Tricia Hersey's \"Rest is Resistance\" to read together. The best way I can illustrate the impact is to include some student journal responses to the book:\r\n\r\n\"Honestly, even 10 sentences into \"Rest is Resistance,\" I could already tell that I'd be able to relate to this book. Not only is Tricia Hersey a black woman, but she also prioritizes rest. The battles that black women in society and other areas are truly exhausting. I myself prioritize rest both mentally and physically, and that is why this book rings so true to me. Thank you so much for introducing this book to the class. I honestly think that this could be something I'd enjoy reading.\"\r\n\r\n\"My first impression is she was saying the complete opposite of what everyone else was telling me my whole life. And Rest is Resistance is something I can read while laying down. A point she was making finding peace is something that's true to me because I been trying to do that a lot lately.\"\r\n\r\n\"Some points that Tricia Hersey makes that ring true to me is the way she says if we don't rest we'll not make it, and she's right because if people overwork themselves they'll not make it to old age.she also said rest is healing. I didn't understand that at first but I thought about it and I think that it means that, If like someone gets on your nerves and makes you upset just rest and don't think about it.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nI am forever thankful to all my donors for making this project a reality!","fullyFundedDate":1742931213330,"projectUrl":"project/rest-and-resistance-2-understanding-and/9058507/","projectTitle":"Rest and Resistance 2: Understanding and Progress","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Campbell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp131590_orig.jpg?crop=2086,2086,x889,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727108345850","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/131590"},{"teacherId":9780663,"projectId":9058654,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the heartfelt donation. Many commented that it was the first time they had really looked at what was in their snacks. One student said, \"I never thought about how much sugar is in something labeled 'healthy' until now.\"\r\n\r\nWe recently completed a classroom project called \"Smart Snacking 101,\" where students analyzed common snacks brought from home or bought from vending machines. Using the new materials, they read nutrition labels, compared ingredients, and discussed the impact of processed vs. whole foods. Then, they designed their own \"healthy vending machine\" menus filled with realistic, affordable snack options teens would actually enjoy. The creativity and critical thinking they brought to the task were incredible.\r\n\r\nSince then, I've seen a noticeable shift. Students are bringing in more fruits, protein-rich snacks, and water. Some have even shared how they're encouraging their younger siblings to make similar choices. The materials didn't just teach they empowered.\r\n\r\nNext, we're preparing to launch a peer-led awareness campaign across the school. My students will create posters, digital content, and brief classroom presentations to spread what they've learned. Their goal? To help others think twice before grabbing that bag of chips and to show that smart choices can still taste great.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us spark real, lasting change.
