Also, after we were having competitions between groups, the winning team was rewarded with their favorite snack and juice. In fact, some students who don't have me in class this semester still stop by because thanks to your generosity, they already know that they can count on OUR classroom to have JUST what they need for use in school each day! It feels really good knowing that the kids have a safe, reliable, \"home\" classroom to come to for whatever they might need (while still maintaining their dignity and not having to feel embarrassed by having to ask).\r\n\r\nThe students' reactions were absolutely priceless when they first saw that our new materials were all for THEM! To see the students' warm smiles and genuine contentment just meant the world--especially in a school district where many of our kids are used to doing without.\r\n\r\nThankfully, these items arrived just in time... Our Donors Choose project was specific to helping our students face the rough, raw, bitter New Jersey wintertime. Everything from warm beanie/woolly caps to hand lotion for dry skin, our kids had what they needed from the very first snowflake that fell! As you know, the Northeast faced TWO separate winter storms this year (one of which was a BLIZZARD!), and before that even happened, my students were able to receive what they needed right from our English classroom. During daily class time, our kids have also been able to use the pencils and highlighters that were provided by your generous donations. It's not as though students had to wait for a particular lesson or unit to come up; they were able to use our new supplies as SOON as they arrived to school--and it's all thanks to YOU!!\r\n\r\nOnce again, we can't thank you enough for your support and immense generosity. Because of wonderful donors like you, our classroom is a happy, safe, warm, and loving space where students thrive...because if basic needs are met, they can relax in a learning environment that helps them meet their goals every day! Just last week, a student who frequently sat out of activities due to self-consciousness was able to use the new products to freshen up, resulting in full participation in our strength training unit. Beyond just physical cleanliness, this project has fostered a sense of self-care and dignity among my students.
