The students knew this funding meant that they would do a lot more \"hands-on\" activities in the classroom. This past week, we did our first such activity, titled, \"The Ziggurat Marble\" challenge. First, let me explain why we did this activity for this lesson. During this lesson, the students learned the 7 characteristics of a civilization, they learned what each characteristic was and how ancient Sumer's evidences/artifacts/ruins, shows and proves that they had each of them. This STEM exercise was all about Ziggurats - which were temples that ancient Sumerians built to get closer to the gods. The existence of the ruins of these temples, proved that they had a religion. During the Sumerian days, they built these temples, called Ziggurats, as high as possible - believing that the higher they made it the closer it brought them to the gods. In the class STEM activity, students got to build replications of Ziggurats - with one goal - to make it as high as possible, just like the Sumerians did. Instead of students crowding around a single computer or passing around a device, anyone can quickly connect and project their slides, videos, diagrams, or Google Slides onto the big screen. This has boosted student engagement, improved public speaking and collaboration skills, and made group work far more efficient. Presentations now feel professional and inclusive—every group member can contribute visually without technical delays or tangled cables.
