My goal is to spend more time focused on what matters most—teaching, supporting my students academically, and creating a positive learning environment—and less time managing the everyday operational tasks that take valuable time away from instruction. Having a robot vacuum helps make that goal possible by helping us start each school day with a cleaner, more organized classroom.\r\n\r\nA clean classroom creates a welcoming environment where students can feel comfortable and ready to learn. When the floors are clean and the room is organized, students are able to focus more easily on their assignments and classroom activities. The robot vacuum helps maintain that environment without requiring me or my students to spend instructional time sweeping and cleaning the floor. That means more minutes can be dedicated to reading, writing, math, discussion, projects, and individual student support.\r\n\r\nThe students have also been very interested in the new technology. They were excited to see how the robot vacuum works and quickly became curious about how it moves around the classroom, recognizes obstacles, and cleans different areas. For many students, it has become more than just a cleaning tool—it has become a fun example of how technology can be used to solve everyday problems.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially warmed to the robot vacuum because they enjoy technology and naturally want to understand how things work. These students have been eager to observe it, talk about what it is doing, and make predictions about where it will go next. Their curiosity creates opportunities for conversations about problem-solving, technology, responsibility, and innovation. Even students who are not normally excited about classroom routines have shown interest because the robot vacuum makes something as ordinary as cleaning feel new and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe robot vacuum has also encouraged students to think more about taking care of their learning environment. Knowing that the vacuum needs a reasonably clear path to do its job has helped reinforce the importance of keeping materials and belongings organized. Students can see that everyone plays a role in maintaining a classroom that is ready for learning.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has helped me redirect my attention toward my students. Every minute I can spend teaching instead of handling routine operational responsibilities is valuable. The robot vacuum may seem like a simple addition to the classroom, but its impact reaches much further. It supports a cleaner learning environment, saves time, sparks student curiosity, and gives students another opportunity to see technology being used in a practical way.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to the donors who made this possible. The scales and pipettes were used during our Synthetic Materials lab, where students measured and mixed materials while practicing accuracy, observation, and data collection skills. Having enough quality materials for every group allowed students to fully participate in the experiment instead of simply watching demonstrations. During our Electromagnetic lab, students were also able to explore how electromagnets work through hands-on investigation and teamwork. One memorable moment was hearing students excitedly compare their measurements and test results while problem-solving together like real scientists.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were thrilled. Many students immediately commented that the classroom \"felt like a real science lab.\" They were especially excited to use professional-looking tools like the scales and pipettes because it made them feel more confident and engaged during experiments. Students who are usually hesitant to participate became much more involved once they were able to physically interact with the materials themselves.\r\n\r\nThese resources will continue to support our upcoming science investigations and STEM activities throughout the year. As cliche as it sounds, I firmly believe in the magic of getting lost in the rich fantasy worlds created by reading. A great example of this, that I was blessed to witness firsthand, came in the form of a frequent request I received this year; \"The Wild Robot\" has proven to be a very popular book amongst my 7th graders, likely due to its unique take on science fiction and the deep, albeit subtle, world-building. It has been incredibly satisfying to see my kiddos flock to my bookshelf, and become genuinely excited to pick up this book and read it- at one point, I had to start a waitlist for it- the first time I ever had to do! \r\nThis year, courtesy of your donation, I was able to improve access to that modern classic, by providing a Spanish Language translation of it. One of my students came to us from South America, and when she arrived, she did not speak, write, or read English at all. Needless to say, her ability to enjoy the \"magic of reading\" was particularly limited; I searched high and low for Spanish language translations of student favorites, but finding anything proved far more challenging (and expensive) than I would have hoped. \r\nThankfully, with your grant, I was able to acquire enough translated reading material to sate even the most ravenous readers; needless to say, the first thing I requested was \"Robot Salve,\" the official translation of \"The Wild Robot.\" However, I quickly observed the young lady gravitating towards a different translated series I had acquired, the \"Harry Potter\" books.
