My students have struggled with emotional regulation since day 1. They have never had to stay in school for so long, be around so many other kids and they are used to getting immediate responses from parents when they have emotional needs to be met. I believe that creating a calm corner in my room will be a great asset in teaching them to identify and regulate their emotions. My student's benchmark testing has shown that they are very low in ELA, and I believe that having a large library and giving them the power of choice in what they read will help motivate them to learn and read. We will be starting AR testing soon and I would love to help them engage with reading. They are also low in the informational text so I would love to have more options for them to choose from.
