My requests are designed to increase my students' interest in reading and proficiency in reading and writing. I have included a large selection of high-interest books for all my students, to add to our classroom library. Helping students learn that reading can be exciting is a great way to build better readers, especially out of our reluctant readers. Other items requested such as whiteboards, highlighters, and a classroom printer, are needed to increase proficiency in reading skills and writing skills, especially grammar, and help bridge the learning gap that this past year has increased. Whiteboards will provide them with opportunities to practice modeled skills and allow me to see their progress and intervene where necessary, while still enabling safe intervention that is socially distanced to ensure that everyone remains safe, which is essential during the challenges COVID has brought. As a school serving a large number of low-income families, teachers often lack the necessary technology in classrooms, including colored printers. Having a printer in the classroom would make it easier to print out copies from our digital curriculum, create posters, visual aids, charts, and graphic organizers in color. The ability for students to use color in written text can help improve their ability to learn. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase students' love for reading, confidence, and proficiency in writing. These will help my students meet a number of Nevada Learning Standards including reading standards: RL. 8.10, RI.8.1-6 and writing standards: W.8.4-7.
