Your thoughtful gift has already made a meaningful impact in our classroom, and we are deeply grateful for your support of our students and their learning.\r\n\r\nThese new texts introduce a wide range of important skills and lessons. As we read, students are strengthening their comprehension skills by identifying themes, analyzing character development, and making text-to-self and text-to-world connections. The novel provides rich opportunities to explore vocabulary in context, practice citing textual evidence, and engage in thoughtful discussions about perseverance, responsibility, determination, and the bond between humans and animals. The emotional depth of the story also helps students build empathy and reflect on concepts such as loyalty, hard work, and overcoming challenges.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active, engaging experience. You would see students gathered in small groups discussing key chapters, partners taking turns reading aloud to build fluency, and whole-class conversations where students eagerly raise their hands to share predictions and insights. Many students keep reading journals where they respond to prompts, sketch important scenes, and reflect on the characters' choices. We also incorporate dramatic read-aloud sessions, where students bring scenes to life with expression and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nSeveral students are especially enjoying the new books. One student who previously struggled to stay focused during independent reading now asks if he can read ahead because he \"has to know what happens next.\" Another student has formed a small lunchtime book club with friends to talk about the dogs and the adventures in the Ozarks. A few of our more reluctant readers have connected deeply with Billy's determination and resilience, seeing reflections of their own challenges and goals in his journey.\r\n\r\nYour donation has done more than place books in students' hands—it has sparked curiosity, meaningful conversations, and a genuine love of reading. Thank you for investing in our classroom and for helping create memorable learning experiences for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1746470841894,"projectUrl":"project/novel-study-where-the-red-fern-grows/9251178/","projectTitle":"Novel Study: Where the Red Fern Grows","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hanson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8136093_orig.jpg?crop=2423,2423,x354,y1417&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634494041681","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8136093"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63288","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":371,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":69,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":62.2,"schoolId":63288,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Minden Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Minden Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/douglas-county-school-district/minden-elementary-school/63288"}
