Having these essential materials readily available means that every student can participate fully in classroom activities without worrying about whether they have the supplies they need.\r\n\r\nMy students are using the crayons, colored pencils, and paper every day for a variety of learning activities. We use them to illustrate stories, create graphic organizers, complete writing projects and practice math skills. One special classroom moment happened during a recent collaborative creative activity with first and second grade. Students were asked to draw a self portrait picture. Students eagerly gathered their crayons and colored pencils and began bringing their ideas to life. Their excitement was contagious as they shared their pictures with classmates and proudly displayed their finished work in the hallway in the form of banners for everyone to see. For some students, drawing and coloring provided an opportunity to express ideas that they sometimes have difficulty putting into words.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new supplies, they were excited to see so many new crayons and colored pencils available for everyone. They immediately began talking about the colors they wanted to use and how they could use the materials in their upcoming projects. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm over supplies that many of us might take for granted.
