This classroom project was brought to life by the Nevada Department of Education, and we are incredibly grateful for the support provided to our students. Our classroom serves students from a low-income community with a high population of English Language Learners (ELLs), and these supplies have already made a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experiences. Your generosity has helped create a more engaging, supportive, and welcoming classroom environment where students feel excited to learn and confident taking academic risks.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were thrilled. Many of them immediately noticed the fresh crayons, markers, paint, Play-Doh, paper, glue, and Expo markers and could not wait to begin using them. One special moment was during writing centers when students proudly used the new paper and sentence strips to practice writing simple sentences and illustrating their ideas. For many of our ELL students, writing can feel intimidating at first, but having colorful, high-quality materials made learning feel fun and approachable. Students were excited to share their work with classmates and teachers, and it was wonderful watching their confidence grow throughout the activity.\r\n\r\nThe sentence strips have become one of the most valuable tools in our classroom. Students use them daily to practice sight words, build sentences, and learn sentence structure in a visual, hands-on way. Many of our English Language Learners benefit from physically manipulating words and practicing oral language while building complete sentences. These activities help strengthen vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension skills while making language learning interactive and engaging. During small group instruction, students work together using sentence strips to create stories, identify beginning sounds, and practice reading fluently.\r\n\r\nThe batteries for our listening center have also had a huge impact on student learning. Our listening center is one of the students' favorite stations because it allows them to independently listen to stories while following along with books. This supports listening comprehension, pronunciation, fluency, and vocabulary development, which are all critical skills for English Language Learners. Students become so engaged listening to stories, and many are now retelling stories and using new vocabulary words during classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nThe Play-Doh and paint have supported both academic learning and fine-motor development. Play-Doh activities strengthen the small muscles in students' hands, helping prepare them for writing tasks. Many kindergarten students still struggle with pencil grip and hand strength, so these sensory activities are both enjoyable and beneficial. Paint has also become a fun way to reinforce sight words, letters, and numbers through art-based activities. Students are more motivated to participate when learning feels creative and hands-on, and these experiences help them connect language and academic concepts in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nExpo markers and paper are used constantly throughout the school day for writing practice, math work, phonics lessons, and collaborative learning activities. The ability to write, erase, and try again encourages students to take risks without fear of making mistakes. This is especially important for young learners who are still developing confidence in their academic abilities. Treasure chest rewards have also become a strong motivator for positive behavior, homework completion, and reaching classroom goals. In a low-income classroom, small incentives can make a very big impact on student motivation and excitement about school.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students are learning in an environment filled with opportunities to explore, create, and grow. These materials are helping students strengthen academic skills, develop confidence, and build a love of learning that will continue far beyond kindergarten. Thank you again for investing in our classroom and making a difference in the lives of our students. It is a bridge to independence and language. Because of your kindness, our students now have access to a screen-free, tactile way to engage with stories and songs.\r\n\r\nYour gift is already making an impact by:\r\n\r\nBuilding Independence: Students with fine motor delays can easily place a Tonie figure on the box to start their favorite story without needing adult assistance.\r\n\r\nProviding Sensory Comfort: The predictable nature of the Toniebox helps calm students during difficult transitions or moments of sensory overwhelm.\r\n\r\nEncouraging Literacy: Hearing stories read aloud helps our budding communicators build vocabulary and a love for storytelling.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your investment in our classroom.
