The seating options such as floor cushions and flexible chairs—have created a more supportive environment where students can regulate their bodies and stay engaged for longer periods of time. During our morning SEL block, students choose a comfortable spot to participate in check-ins, breathing exercises, and group discussions. This has helped them feel safe, calm, and ready to learn. During STEM rotations, students use the same seating while working collaboratively on hands-on tasks, such as building models or solving simple engineering challenges, which has increased both participation and focus.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the seating, their reactions were immediate and enthusiastic. Many of them expressed excitement about having choices in where and how they learn. For students in a self-contained SLD classroom, sensory needs and attention can be significant barriers, but the flexible seating made a noticeable difference right away. Students who previously struggled to remain seated during lessons are now able to stay engaged, and we have seen a reduction in off-task behaviors. More importantly, students are showing increased confidence in sharing ideas, especially during group STEM activities and peer discussions.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue using the flexible seating to support independence and self-regulation across all content areas. Our next steps include expanding STEM-based projects where students can collaborate, problem-solve, and apply critical thinking skills while using these seating options. We are also teaching students how to make responsible choices about their learning environment, helping them understand what type of seating works best for their focus and productivity. These resources have not only improved engagement but have also supported the development of essential social, emotional, and academic skills.","fullyFundedDate":1768164313368,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-seating-for-focused-learners/9999547/","projectTitle":"Comfortable Seating for Focused Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Afzal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10400053_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768191178162","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10400053"},{"teacherId":10402451,"projectId":10011095,"letterContent":"I would have never expected the outcome this experience has provided to these students. When I first looked into what I believed my students would find engaging and beneficial, there was some pressure. Now after completing the lessons and using the materials I could not be happier. When my students were introduced to the materials I never expected the excitement and joy they expressed. We recently made slime and for most of the students it was a first. They expressed to me that they had always watched slime videos online that they could not believe they got to make it themselves. It was such a success I plan to do the project again for the end of the year send off. They also had another first experience with clay. When they first saw the clay they had no idea what it was for and once they were shown what they could do with it they went all out. They were elated to find out they could make so many projects with their own hands and liked that they could come up with creative ideas on how they wanted thier projects to turn out. They not only were able to explore their own creativity they were also able to see others projects and were encouraged by them having a great time which fired them up to also try their best. As students and staff walk by, they can see and celebrate the hard work and creativity of my class. My students feel a true sense of pride knowing their work is being showcased for others, and it has motivated them to put even more effort into their learning.\r\n\r\nI have seen students become more confident in sharing their ideas and taking ownership of their work in a new way. One of the most impactful additions has been a color printer, which has allowed me to bring lessons to life in a way that simply wasn't possible before. Visual learning is so important at this age, and having access to vibrant, engaging materials has helped my students better understand and retain new concepts. Whether it's colorful reading passages, phonics activities, or math visuals, students are more focused, excited, and eager to participate.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the whiteboards you helped provide have made our phonics lessons far more interactive. Students are able to practice skills in real time, make mistakes, and immediately try again without fear. This has created a low-pressure, high-engagement learning environment where all students feel more confident participating. I've noticed a significant increase in student involvement, especially from those who may have been hesitant before.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, the social-emotional learning books have had a meaningful impact on our classroom community. A standout favorite has been The Together Tree, which has truly resonated with my students. This story has sparked thoughtful conversations about kindness, inclusion, and empathy. I've seen students begin to model these behaviors with one another, building stronger relationships and a more supportive classroom environment. It has become a book that we return to often, and it holds a special place in both my students' hearts and my own.\r\n\r\nFinally, the addition of snacks has helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere during reading time. For many students, this small comfort makes a big difference. It allows them to relax, focus, and fully engage with their books. These moments have become something they genuinely look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping create a classroom where they feel supported, engaged, and inspired to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1768516833532,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-third-graders-through-engagin/10000944/","projectTitle":"Empowering Third Graders Through Engaging Literacy Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Traci","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10400386"},{"teacherId":5856450,"projectId":9647146,"letterContent":"We are deeply grateful for your generous donation of clay and art materials to our Title 1 School Garden Club.
