According to Edutopia, "Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking." This mindset is especially effective and important when working with students with learning disabilities. My amazing students want to be in school, they want to learn and show progress. However, they also have difficulty staying focused, especially when confined to one seat all day. Flexible seating allows students to find a space within the classroom where they can better access learning. I have seen the benefits of providing this type of classroom just having a cool down corner, and now I would love to expand that to include my entire classroom. Giving students choice and flexibility empowers them to take control of their own education.
