We got right to work building using the tape, glue, and other class supplies. Many of the items have already been purchased in dojo store! The slime and squishes were a hit!!\r\n The arrival of our new building kits has completely transformed our fourth-grade science class into a bustling engineering lab. When the students first saw the boxes filled with blades, hubs, dowels, and digital multimeters, their faces lit up with immediate curiosity and excitement. For a classroom of hands-on nine- and ten-year-olds, getting to work with real, high-quality engineering components felt like a major promotion. They couldn't wait to sort through the materials, feel the weight of the different materials, and figure out how all the moving pieces would connect.\r\nWe immediately put these resources to work for a massive STEM challenge: improving a simulated town energy grid. In our current project, student design teams are constructing working windmills to see how much clean electricity they can feed back into our classroom grid. Just this week, there was a fantastic breakthrough when a group adjusted the pitch of their turbine blades using the new hubs and watched the multimeter dial jump, proving they could supply enough power to light up their section of the town. The room erupted in cheers, and that spark of success instantly spread as other fourth graders rushed back to their stations to optimize their designs for the community.\r\n Our next step is to connect all the individual windmills together to test the reliability of our upgraded town grid under varying wind conditions. The students will collect, graph, and analyze their collective voltage data to see if their engineering improvements successfully prevented simulated blackouts. They are also incredibly excited to take photos with their completed windmills to send your way.
