Our school's population is challenged economically and socially. My classroom is often the most stable, positive force in their lives, and it shows by how eager they are to come to school. All our teachers work daily to provide for kids who need clothes, backpacks, even weekly food bags. Many of my students are foster children, or have been moved around from apartment to motel to government housing with a single parent who is just trying to keep a minimum wage job to support several children. I am a co-teacher in an inclusion class, which allows children with special needs to learn along with their grade level peers. This is wonderful for all children, and also means that having engaging ways to grasp knowledge is more important than ever. They are unique, lovable students, incredibly capable with an absolute joy of learning. We strive to meet the needs of these children, and they are strong and resilient! However, every bit of support helps to provide for their education!
