When the materials first came out, the reaction was immediate—students wanted to touch, experiment, ask questions, and figure out what they could make. Instead of simply following directions, they began thinking like designers: What could I build? How could I change it? Will my idea actually work?\r\n\r\nWe have been incorporating these resources into our Smart Cookie Discovery Lab, where students learn through building, testing, and problem-solving. One of our projects challenges students to transform simple cardboard pieces into ocean-inspired creations. Students have to think about shapes, how pieces connect, and how to make their designs sturdy enough to hold together. ChompShop makes it possible for children to take a sketch or idea and physically construct it, while Artie helps reinforce the connection between creativity and technology. Some of the best moments happen when a design doesn't work the first time and a student decides to modify it and try again. They are learning that mistakes aren't the end of a project—they're information that helps them build a better version.\r\n\r\nNext, our students will continue developing these skills as we move through new Smart Cookie projects and themes.
