In our gifted and talented classroom, we investigate a universal concept each year. This year our universal concept is "Structures". My goal is to increase critical thinking as we investigate structures. Whether it is ancient or modern structures, tangible or intangible structures, or even academic structures, the more connections we make to how things work and interconnect the more likely we are to succeed and contribute to the world around us. We are learning about the brain and how it works (NVACS 4.LS1.2) including multiple intelligences and how we process information. Our culminating activity is to dissect a sheep's brain and compare what we have learned to real-life experiences. The students are excited to participate in this hands-on activity!
I am also looking forward to putting our critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills to the test by solving the Cookie Jar Mystery. The application of those critical thinking skills in different content areas helps to develop those connections and create that zeal for learning I try to maintain in my classroom. Thank you for helping us keep the joy of learning alive!
