Playing and using hands-on materials is vital to early childhood learning. Education has really pushed out the importance of play, manipulatives, crafts, and projects within Kindergarten. This is simply not ok. Studies show that play builds social skills, motor skills, negotiating, critical thinking, and positive character traits that last a lifetime. My class does not have paints, comfortable reading areas, building manipulatives, inspirational incentives, or way to add fun into their curriculum. As a veteran teacher, I have spent my career teaching students to think outside the box and to create, analyze, experiment, and make learning exciting. In Kindergarten when learning words, letters, sounds, sentences, and paragraphs, I want my students to touch materials and be able to cement these concepts into their minds. I need these children to be engaged and stimulated with these resources so that we can create unforgettable projects.
