Every item that was donated has been used consistently throughout the school year, and it has helped create a classroom environment where my students feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. As a special education teacher, I work with students who all have different strengths, interests, and needs, so having materials that support multiple learning styles has been incredibly important for our classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of the items that has made a huge impact has been the Sharpies and drawing materials. Many of my students enjoy expressing themselves through art, especially students who struggle with verbal communication or writing tasks. One student in particular absolutely loves using the Sharpies for drawing. She will often finish her work and then ask if she can draw during breaks or free time. Drawing has become a calming and motivating activity for her, and I have noticed that she is more willing to complete assignments when she knows she will have time to use the art supplies afterward. The Sharpies have also been helpful for classroom projects, visual supports, and making activities more engaging for students who need extra motivation to participate in work tasks.\r\n\r\nThe Rubik's cubes have also become one of the students' favorite classroom items. Some of my students really enjoy higher-level thinking activities and challenges, so the Rubik's cubes have been a perfect addition. They encourage problem-solving, patience, and focus, while also giving students something fun and rewarding to work on during breaks or reinforcement time. I have students who will sit together and try to solve them as a group, which has even helped encourage teamwork and social interaction. It has been amazing to watch students become so excited and proud of themselves when they figure out new patterns or solve part of the cube independently. Even students who originally thought they could not do it became more confident after practicing.\r\n\r\nAnother item that has been extremely helpful in our classroom has been the vacuum. In a special education classroom, messes happen every single day, whether it is crumbs from snacks, sensory materials, paper scraps, or other small messes throughout the classroom. Having a classroom vacuum has made cleanup so much easier and faster. Instead of spending extra time trying to sweep everything up, I can quickly clean the classroom and keep the environment safe and comfortable for students. It has honestly reduced stress and helped me stay more organized throughout busy school days.\r\n\r\nThe iPad charger and charging cords have also made a huge difference in our daily routine. My students use iPads regularly for communication, educational programs, and learning activities, so making sure devices stay charged is very important. Before receiving these materials, keeping devices charged could sometimes be difficult, especially when cords would stop working or become damaged easily. The charging station and cords we received have been reliable, durable, and extremely helpful. At the end of each day, I am able to charge all student iPads efficiently so they are ready for learning the next morning. The cords have held up very well and have not ripped or broken, which has been such a relief.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has positively impacted both my students and myself as a teacher. These materials may seem simple, but they have helped increase engagement, independence, creativity, organization, and comfort within our classroom. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and support that made this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1768513571010,"projectUrl":"project/purr-fect-resources-for-students-who-lea/10016744/","projectTitle":"Purr-fect Resources for Students Who Learn Differently!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10399796"},{"teacherId":9353878,"projectId":10030183,"letterContent":"Our Aladdin production turned students into engineers and artisans. Since receiving these materials, we've been able to create a more structured, engaging, and safe environment that supports both academic growth and social development. The Velcro number spots and cones have become essential tools in our daily routines. They help students quickly understand where to go during activities, minimizing confusion and maximizing active learning time. One standout moment was during a recent team-based relay challenge. Students rotated through stations using the number spots as guides, practicing math and movement skills at each stop. Because everything was clearly organized, students stayed focused, transitions were smooth, and everyone was actively participating. The chalk has also opened up exciting opportunities for outdoor learning. Students have been solving math problems on the pavement, practicing spelling words, and even designing their own obstacle courses and games. When the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate—students were eager to explore, asking thoughtful questions and enthusiastically jumping into activities. The scoreboard quickly became a class favorite, adding an extra layer of motivation and teamwork to every game. Even simple activities now feel more meaningful as students practice counting, collaboration, and good sportsmanship.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these materials will continue to play a key role in expanding student learning and engagement. We are beginning to incorporate more student-led activities, where small groups design their own games using the cones, number spots, and chalk. This not only builds creativity but also strengthens problem-solving and communication skills. Students are also setting personal and team goals, using the scoreboard to track their progress and reflect on their growth over time. The squish balls have been a powerful tool for positive reinforcement, helping to celebrate effort, kindness, and teamwork in a tangible way. Students are motivated to make good choices and support one another, knowing their actions are recognized and valued. Additionally, having a first aid kit readily available allows us to confidently continue active, hands-on learning while ensuring that minor injuries can be addressed quickly and calmly. These resources have helped create a classroom environment where students feel supported, energized, and excited to participate. My fifth graders were genuinely excited and grateful when we introduced the new materials, especially the iPad, headphones, colorful pens, and organizational supplies. Something as simple as having their own pencil pouch, working headphones, or fun writing tools gave many students a sense of pride and ownership over their learning. Several students immediately thanked me and said the classroom felt more full. \r\n\r\nWhat has stood out most to me is how appreciative my students have been. Because of your generosity, my fourth-grade students now have access to hands-on STEM materials and classroom organization tools that have already made a big difference in how they learn and collaborate.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited. As we opened the boxes together, they immediately began asking questions and brainstorming what they could build. Many students who are usually quiet during traditional lessons quickly became leaders during our STEM time, sharing ideas and helping their classmates solve problems.\r\n\r\nOne of the first activities we completed was a bridge engineering challenge using the STEM bridge building set. Students worked in small groups to design and test bridges that could hold the most weight. They sketched their ideas, built prototypes, tested them, and then revised their designs. The room was filled with excitement as students cheered each other on and celebrated when a bridge held more weight than expected.\r\n\r\nThe Snap Circuits kits have also become a favorite during STEM centers. Students love seeing how different pieces connect to create working circuits. Watching their faces light up when a fan spins or a light turns on has been incredible.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic tiles and building engineering center have encouraged collaboration and creativity. Students often work together to design structures, problem-solve when something collapses, and improve their designs.\r\n\r\nThe headphones and paper bins have helped our classroom run more smoothly as well. Students can now focus better during independent work and digital learning, and our organized supply system helps them take responsibility for materials and station areas.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students are learning that STEM is about curiosity, creativity, and persistence. They are building confidence as thinkers, designers, and problem-solvers.\r\n\r\nSome of the things my students had to say about these awesome materials: \r\n\r\n\"Building the bridge was my favorite because we got to test it and fix it when it didn't work the first time.\"\r\n\r\n\"I liked the Snap Circuits because I made a fan turn on and it felt like I was a real engineer.\"\r\n\r\n\"I like working with my group to build things because everyone has different ideas.\"\r\n\r\nOur next step is for students to begin designing their own inventions to solve everyday problems using the materials you helped provide.
